1958 Edsel Corsair 4 DOOR HARD TOP Base 6.7L
Description
Fresh from an Indiana estate is this 1958 Edsel Corsair 4 door hard top. This is a senior series car built on the Mercury chassis. There were 5880 Corsair 4 door hard tops produced in 1958. This car was owned by the previous owner from 1984 till this past week. It is equipped with a E475 410 cubic inch V8 4bbl dual exhaust, teletouch automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power antenna, "WORKING TOWN & COUNTRY" radio, dial temp heater, electric wipers and windshield washer, courtesy lights, clock, padded dash and visors, back up lights, bumper guards, spinner hub caps, fender skirts, tri- tone paint in copper, jet black and frost white and hooded side view mirror. This was a very nicely equipped car in it's day. Everything works except the power antenna. The car runs and drives with some pulling to the right during hard braking. The mileage at listing is 29039 and was sold to us as actual miles and that is what your title will state. The interior looks like a 29k mile car. With the exception of the padded dash the interior is border line spectacular. We removed the dealer installed plastic seat covers, dyed the original carpet and detailed the interior. Door panels look brand new, and other than re padding the dash this interior is near show quality especially for a 59 year old car. Glass, stainless, chrome are better than driver quality. The car was re painted over 30 years ago and I am guessing maybe the car may have sat outdoors as the copper paint is very faded. The paint on the roof shined up pretty good. This car is certainly a looker but would need the exterior restored to be show worthy. Floor pans, trunk floor and frame are nice. There was some rust repair in the inner rear wheel wells years ago and that has held up well. There is some minor rust in the usual Edsel places, hood lip, under the headlight buckets, bottom of the front left fender and bottom of the rear quarters. As far as I can see it has it's original shocks, exhaust and the gorgeous original interior is untouched. The car was built in Somerville Massachusetts July 23 1957, the vin# confirms it's early production.(X8SX700382) Means it was the 382nd Edsel off the line in that plant. True numbers matching very rare car and Edsel's are red hot in the market. While the car is a candidate for restoration, I would not be ashamed to drive it to any local car show, it is a real attention getter. We are selling the car as we purchased it. We have made no mechanical repairs, only cleaned and detailed the car. During this auction the car is here and available for inspection and we recommend you come see the car in person before bidding, not afterwards. It is sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied. It is a 59 year old collector car which is what you should expect. The tires are very old and should be replaced.
