1989 Ferrari Mondial t Coupe.
Very rare, one of just 40 U.S. Delivered Mondial t Coupes. Delivered new to Lake Forest Sports Cars in Illinois and subsequently spent most of its life in California. Rosso Corsa over tan Connolly leather. Gated 5-Speed transaxle. Approximately 80,850 miles (mileage subject to increase). The Mondial t uses the same drivetrain as the 348, but offers a longer wheelbase, adjustable suspension, and power steering (and of course two tiny rear seats). Although 300+ t Cabriolets were made available to US buyers, the Coupe version was limited to just one model year, and one car per Ferrari dealer (40 in 1989). This car was sold through Lake Forest Sports Cars to a California owner. An interesting note about the Mondial t Coupe - it was the first Ferrari with a longitudinal V8 produced for the North American market (the 288 GTO was produced earlier, but not in US specification).
I have about $6,500 in recent parts and service receipts, about $3k of which was to replace the power steering rack right after I purchased the car. It always starts, drives perfectly, and sounds great. The clutch was replaced 2,000 miles ago by the previous owner. The wheels were just refurbished (powder coated) and fitted with new Yokohama S-Drive tires that have less than 200 miles. The lift struts on the front storage compartment and engine cover were just replaced.
The car is due for a belt service (by age of the belt, not mileage) and does have some small issues that do not really affect driveability. The passenger side window does not work, and the sunroof is either disabled or not working. The ventilation fan runs, but no air comes out of the vents. The previous owner did have the AC converted to 134A, but it likely needs a recharge. The rear trunk lid was opened too far at some point, putting very small bulges in the aluminum trunk lid at the hinge area. There are a few very small paint chips and dents, but nothing noticeable from a few feet away. The paint looks mostly original and looks very nice. The front (fiberglass) valence spoiler has some chips, and there is evidence under the car that it has been bottomed-out in the past (these cars have very little ground clearance). One of the side strakes has a piece missing.
Inside the car, the interior is very presentable. There is some bolster wear on the seats and some normal wear and tear.
The car includes the owner's manual pouch and many service records dating back to 1995. I also have most of them scanned to PDF. The car also includes a a flawless full size spare. No tool kit, no luggage. The car has a clean Carfax and Autocheck, and a clean PA title in my name. The car is also listed locally, so this listing may be ended at any point.
Below is a more complete breakdown of condition:
The good:- Refurbished Wheels and new Yokohama S-Drive Tires with <200 miles
- New steering column stalk switches
- Clutch replaced at 79k miles
- New engine lid and bonnet lift struts
- Refurbished steering rack at 79k miles
- Theiler 348 upgrades
- momo racing pedals
- Service records going back to 1995 - most scanned to PDF
- Clean PA title in hand (in seller's name)
- Clean Autocheck showing 6 owners (names of owners listed in paperwork, including one interesting owner)
- Original engine
- Original glass
- Headlight motors work great
- Electric mirrors work
- Mostly original paint has great shine
- No fuse box related gremlins
- Adjustable suspension seems to work (actuators present)
- Coolant system works well (tested in 95 degree city traffic!)
The bad:
- Belt service overdue
- Rear trunk lid "sprung" - trunk lid very slightly deformed as a result. The lids are very thin aluminum.
- Evidence of bottoming out - please see close up photos added of front right corner
- Right side strake chipped
- Right door power window inoperable. I have not checked to see if the problem is the switch, relay, or motor.
- Minor paint chips and dents
- Chips in front (fiberglass) valance spoiler
- Sunroof inoperable (but closed and water tight)
- Possible coolant system leak (slight coolant smell in winter)
- HVAC gives no air at vent and AC inoperable (all components present and previously converter to R134A). HVAC blower works.
- Some [aftermarket] window tint bubbling/separating
Some valuation info: I added a snapshot from Bringatrailer.com with some sale history for Mondial t's. In 2016 a Mondial t Coupe with 93k miles sold for $38,000. While Hagerty is usually a good source for classic car valuations, it doesn't seem that they have updated their valuation of Mondial t Coupes in the past 3 years (probably due to a lack of verified sales data). About 95% of the Mondial t Coupes were sold outside of North America, so they are a bit easier to find overseas - but even there the asking prices typically start at $40k.
Please note that there is only one other Mondial t Coupe for sale in the US (that I know of)... and it's listed on eBay for $75k.
I have most of the service records and receipts in PDF form and can provide them to the buyer by dropbox.
A nonrefundable Paypal deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of sale. Please pay the balance by cash or wire within 7 calendar days. Paypal is not acceptable for the balance unless the buyer covers fees. Please pick up the car within 2 weeks, though extended storage is available at my cost. I am happy to work with your transporter or exporter. Pre-purchase inspections are available after a deposit is received, but must be arranged and paid for by the buyer.
