Description

Thank you for considering my little Italian jewel. I have owned a number of 124s as well as Alfa Spiders. I can tell you from experience that the Fiat 124 is one of the finest open 2 seater sport cars ever built. The coachwork of the 124 far exceeds the fit and finish on the Alfas of the same era. The chrome bumper versions are much more charming than the later cars, and were built in far fewer numbers. This was the purest styling of the the late 60s and endures today. The chrome bumper cars command a far greater value than the quite common 1975s thru 79. Even the details of the interior are far nicer on these earlier cars. In 1972 the Company actually included rear seats! These was soon to be removed and replaced with a shelf as Federal laws regarding kinderseats became more strict. The 1.6 Liter dual overhead cam engine sings in Italian. The 5 speed shifts and clutches simply effortless. With only 36,000 original miles, this must be considered one of the lowest examples for sale. Original paint and interior have survived and still show well. The convertible top is new. I discovered this car after many years in storage. Rust free and totally unaltered, this is one to keep and cherish for the future.
The car has been fully serviced and is ready for use this spring and summer. The work was done by the number one guru of this marque, Dans Italian Sport Car Service outside of Hartford. Even the interior light works when you open the door! Try that out on an Alfa!! Of course records are provided. With its correct wheels, center caps and beauty rims, it is nice to see it unaltered. The car is fit with a pair of period correct Talbot Jrs,(just like the Ferraris of the same era) and the dash is pure and unaltered even with its radio delete option!
Mechanically, the car is ready to enjoy. It enjoys its original matching numbers engine and carburation. The manifold is original, tight and in perfect condition. The suspension, brakes exhaust etc require no work. The new top and carpeting are of fine quality. The battery is new. The heater and wipers work fine. The ride is simply wonderful. It steers light yet firm. The original steering is just the perfect match. Never change it!
Feel free to contact me at 914-403-1768. The car is located in the scenic hamlet of Bedford Village, NY, just west of Stamford, CT. For all you New Yorkers, you might be comforted by the fact that Bedford lies only 42 miles north of Times Square. This being said, I am a seasoned collector of only fine cars. When I began my hobby in 1978 as a 24 year-old man, I had the good fortune to study with one of the greatest, Ed Jurist, owner of the Vintage Car Store in Nyack, NY. Mr. Jurist taught me life lessons: "Only start with good examples and with unique marques and models, which inspire emotion to their owners." (Actually, we are really stewards of these properties. One day they will be in other hands.) And I follow his advice all of these years later: "Keep it original and as unrestored as possible!"
On the subject of possible trades: If you have an interesting trade, car or motorcycle, feel free to share it with me. Of course the car is registered in my name, and may be transferred to you.
If you have transportation needs: Feel free to contact my dear friend, Dave Lempert of Transport Masters. He will gladly give you a free estimate for professional and courteous service. 561-482-7789.
Come and see the car, or send a representative to check it out. You will not be disappointed. At this price of $6500, you will never be able to appreciate an open classic European sport car for less!
Thank you and feel free to give me a call at 914-403-1768. Cheers! John Louis
