1932 FIAT508A Balilla Spider running, find in State of São Paulo, Brazil.
It’s the icon of FIAT popularization.
Introduced in the FIERA CAMPIONARIA DI MILANO of 1932, with the name FIAT 508 BALILLA. It had 3 bodies in the first year, being the SPIDER with lesser production. Weighing 685kg, was called Tarifa Minima (Minimum Tax) because of his fuel economy and lower price of 10800 Liras ( 2 years of living wage).
It was the first italian car made in mass production, making FIAT a popular brand.
It was the first model produced in the amazing Lingotto Factory, Lingotto has a test track in his roof and now is the FIAT MUSEUM.
It was the first italian car with hydraulic brakes.
Between 1932 and 1939 had more than 150,000 units produced by FIAT, SIMCA and POLSKI. The 508A was produced between 1932 and 1934 and had only 25,000 units produced. In 1932 only 12,000 was produced, being less than 4,000 in the Spider version. In this 4,000 units produced less than 400 was exported.
It was the first car to pass 100,000 units produced. Also was Pioneer to facilitate the women to drive. It’s the car that made Italy motorized.
This car had Engine Number and Chassis Number between the 10,000 first produced.
The Spider version was the rarest, fastest and lightest of the 508A. Maybe this is the only one Balilla Spider in Brazil, in condition to restore.
This car have 95% of body and mechanic. Don’t have original wheels and seats. The roof mechanism is in perfect state, the windshield frame too. Engine in good work, ask for videos. The engine it’s running with a Fiat 147 carburetor and a tractor water pump. The original cooling system by thermosiphon was isolated but still there. Gas tank, generator, starter engine and peripheral parts are working great. Stock gearbox with 3 gears working. Stock differential. It’s still with original front shock absorvers.
