1968 Fiat 124 Spider Convertible 2-Door 1.4L
Description
This is the first year and a very low production model of the Fiat 124 Spider that was introduced into the US market in 1968 although Europe saw it in 1967. The first year is unique in that it is lowered from the factory more then all models after it and it carries the small 1438cc 4 cylinder twin cam power designed by the well known Ferrari engine designer. The flat hood design with no logo are unigue to the first few years. Changes came quickly to the engine and accessories added to the car but the basic body design stayed the same through its production run. There are very few of the 1968 models still around and I'm only selling it to make room for a larger family.
THIS IS A VERY EARLY FIRST YEAR TO BE IMPORTED INTO THE UNITED STATES FIAT 124 SPIDER CONVERTIBLE. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL DRIVE TRAIN, UPGRADED CHROMODORO ALLOY WHEELS WITH CORRECT FIAT CAPS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS ORIGINAL BUT I HAVE ADDED A VOLT METER THAT WILL NEED TO BE CONNECTED BUT LOOKS GOOD IN THE DASH VERSUS THE CLOCK. The dash is brand new and the seats were reupholstered not long ago.I UPGRADED THE STEERING WHEEL TO A LATER MODEL 124 FOR THE COMFORT. THE TOP IS NEW.THE CAR RUNS AND HAS A NEW GAS TANK IN IT... TO MAKE IT ROADWORTHY MY NEXT STEP WAS TO GO THROUGH THE SUSPENSION AND BRAKING SYSTEM. THE TIRES ARE VERY CLOSE TO NEW AND ARE MICHELINS. I HAVE TWO SET OF SETS BELTS TO BE INCLUDED, BOTH THE ORIGINAL IN ROUGH SHAPE AND A SET OF NEWER YEAR BELTS AND ATTACHMENTS.
I REPAINTED THE HOOD BUT PLANNED ON REPAINTING THE WHOLE CAR AND REPLACED THE COWL AS IT HAD SOME RUST SO IT WAS CHEAPER TO REPLACE THEN REPAIR. THE TWO PRIMERED SPOTS ON THE HOOD ARE OLD BODY WORK FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER THAT I HIGHLIGHTED. I SUPSPECT THE LEFT FRONT FRENDER WAS REPLACED AS WELL.
I BOUGHT THIS FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND AS IT HAS BEEN SO LONG I WAS GIVEN A BILL OF SALE AND WILL SELL IT BASED ON THE SAME. IT WAS LAST REGISTERED IN 1992 IN CALIFORNIA AND CARRIES THE PLATE STILL. I am willing to include a set of blue and yellow Califonia license plates that one could have reassigned to the car like I was planning to do to give it the old school look, at least older then the one on it as when it was first registered in California it had the black and yellow plates but those were missing when I bought it. So if your looking for a good classic at the right price this is a good one. Thanx for looking.
