1982 Fiat Spider 2000 Pininfarina
Currently located in zip code 48111.
Driven into a barn in 1999, saved from the crusher in 2011. Currently a semi-daily (warmer, non-rainy) driver. Significant overhaul of cooling system and fuel system; new water pump and hoses, timing belt; a few sensors changed out for the FI system.
Removed the heavy tubular bumpers due to corrosion, and the rubber pieces being rotted out. Rear bumper shocks pushed in, rotated and spot welded (see pics). Front bumper shocks removed.
Have a few spares and parts, too, including a new fuel sender, footwell panels without speaker cutouts (intended to relocate speakers from footwells), ignition switch, front bumper shocks; original horn.
Instruments work: fuel, tach, temperature and speedometer. Clock works but has the typical clouded glass and currently disconnected. Radio works, but not an ‘oem’ system. Exhaust is not original, from the cat-back, and is more free-flowing - as well as sounding great.
Seats are in good condition and work, with no rips in the vinyl. These are surprisingly comfortable seats (driven from South Carolina to Michigan with no problems).
Kept in a garage, but has rust in the wheel arches and along the sills (see pictures) as well as holes behind the seats; the front suspension/shock towers appear to be very solid, as well as the front crossmember. Minor oil leak from rear diff seal (common) and from rear of engine (but doesn't leave spots on the garage floor).
This is a fun car, and has proven to be reliable; starts within a few cranks. Used as a semi-daily (fine weather) driver. Has typical shakes and rattles for a 30 year old car. Temperature remains stable and hovers around the center line on the gauge.
