1971 FORD MUSTANG SECOND GEN MACH I WITH 429 CU IN V8 WITH INFAMOUS DRAG PACK OPTION, NASA Dual Scoop hood active RAM AIR System! Only 35,576 original miles. Only update is paint and decals, which looks fabulous!! Just to be clear... this is the "Super Cobra Jet" 429, and it was the ultimate big block option on the 70-71 Mustang. Solid lifters and diff components to be specific! This car is really unique in that it was the last year that this engine option or NASA(not NACA) Ram Air was available due to the same reasons given above. It was the Ultimate Big Block Muscle engine option in the 70-71 Mustangs and only in the MACH I. This car is the Sport Roof body configuration with the body colored front bumper not seen on the 351 MACH I's. It is also equipped with the original style FIRESTONE Wide Oval 60's tires that were OEM part for this car when built new! This carhas all original body panels, and interior!! Has unique features such as the OIL/ALT/TEMP gauges in upper center stack, NASA dual scoop hood Ram Air system, rear Deck Lid Spoiler, rim-blow deluxe steering wheel, tilt wheel, Power front Disc Brakes Mach I interior option, 3.91 Traction Lock axle, Drag Pack Option( Solid Lifter Cam, 780 CFM HOLLEY 4 barrel carb, Cap Screw Connecting Rods and Modified Crankshaft for added durability). It looks very sharp shod in it's awesome, chrome Magnum 500 Wheels! This car has a great write up in The Mustang Times September Edition of 2016. It was the Tulsa Cruiser for the weekend by Donald Farr and Jim Wicks. It really is just too much fun! Looking at the car up on the lift today to get more information and answers to everyone's questions. The car was repainted circa late 90's, early 2000's, it does have a DOVE-A block, (429 SCJ, dated 5 months after this car was built), so not the original one that came with the car. The transmission is correct, cast iron tail shaft C6 automatic that was rebuilt previously, the carburetor is currently an Edelbrock and it runs much better than the oem Holley 780cfm, but a correct D1-- Holley 780 comes with the car, it has a D1AF-AH distributor, do not know if it is the original one, the radiator appears original, and the exhaust manifolds appear original. The Ram Air flappers work, however probably about as well as they did in 1971. It has a full size spare, that appears original. The tires appear to have been produced the fourth week of 1997. The lower control arms have the riveted on ball joints and appear original and the uppers are bolted on and appear original. The door weather stripping, window felts, and all interior appear original and in very good condition. All of the glass is stamped with the Carlite logo and is the correct tinted windows that the Marti Report and original invoice show came with the car. All body panels appear original to the car. In summary; this appears to be a very nice and well documented 1971 429 SCJ Mach1 that has had 1 repaint and the bottom side detailed / cleaned up some. it has a correct 71 dated 429 CJ engine and a nicely detailed engine bay with mostly original / correct components. As with any 40+ year old car things have been changed and updated throughout the cars life and we will do our best to give a honest evaluation of such things (if you need more info or have questions just ask and we will tell you). This car looks awesome, is well documented, may be one of the ultimate performance Mustangs of the Muscle car era, and was recently featured in Mustang Times as Donald Farr's driver for the Tulsa Mid America event, it has all the right options and is a honest and very rare muscle car to round out your collection.
