Texas Classic Cars Of Dallas is proud to showcase this outstanding 1936 Ford Sedan Convertible. For 1936, Ford further tweaked body and chassis to make for an even more dynamic drive! Center-poised suspension, new front end, wider track, better weight distribution and still a plethora of body styles meant that the 1936 model year was again very successful and found a host of buyers! Today, the styling is still timeless and the car has kept up well against new technologies!
Restored several years ago to show-winning condition, it still presents as one of the nicest ‘36s we've ever seen. With its origin being traced back to possibly 3 or 4 owners, we know that one familyowned it forover 40 years, the gentleman was a WWII war hero and loved all things car related. He actually turned his garage into a museum. There aren't many questions left for how this vehicle was treated as it shows well throughout! Finished in Henry's favorite basic black, the bodywork is exceptionally straight, as you'd expect. Green-colored pinstripes decorate the bod, perhaps not totally correct but certainly a welcome addition, and all the chrome was restored to show standards. Accessories include a pair of driving lamps up front, a side mirror, a Ford script locking gas cap, spare tire .All the door hardware was restored, the dash and window moldings have been properly woodgrained, and all the gauges were rebuilt. The odometer shows 61,543 miles, and that is said to be original miles. The tan canvas top fits snugl, it does have a small inch size tear. Inside, the seats and door panels also appear to have been replaced and show very well with no tears or signs of use. The car drives very well and should make for an excellent touring car.
It is powered by a correct 21-stud 221ci Flathead V8 fitted with the correct aluminum heads and intake. Fully rebuilt during the restoration, it starts quickly and settles into an almost imperceptible idle that's typical of flathead Fords. All the wiring is correct cloth-covered stock, and the only possible demerit in the engine bay are the modern hose clamps on the upper radiator hoses, an easy fix if putting this car back into competition is your intent. The three-speed manual transmission features synchromesh on second and third gears, so it happily runs down the road without any extra attention. Other options on the car include, greyhound hood ornament & bumper guards. The chassis is as detailed as you'd expect from a car of this caliber, although it does show some signs of age. Four color-matched “spider” wheels wear correct trim rings and hub caps and proper 16-inch bias-ply wide whites.
This is one of only 5,601Convertible Sedanssold by Ford in 1936! We would be more than happy to answer any further questions on this beautiful '36 Ford! Thanks for looking!
Ford was reinventing themselves when they started the 1935 model in the sense that they were no longer using their tried and true four-cylinder models and had made the move to offer the 221ci V8 throughout all Ford cars and trucks. They stuck to their strengths with that engine and also left the transverse leaf spring suspension intact but adapted the front springs to fit the new designs more properly and relocated it ahead of the axle which gave more room to the interior. The Ford design was much more modern than prior years with its grill pushed forward which made it more prominent and then de-emphasized the fenders to give it less of the ''Bubble'' look from the side. One of the most advanced designs was its truly integrated trunk on the ''trunkback'' sedans, though the traditional ''flatback'' would still be offered.
Chevrolet regained the sales lead at the end of 1936, but the Ford still sold extremely well. A new club cabriolet model was introduced with a fully framed windshield and weatherproof top, and the convertible sedan gained the popular integrated trunkback design.
The look was updated with an inverted pentagonal grille with all-vertical bars beneath a prominent hood and three horizontal chrome side strips (on DeLuxe models). A concealed horn, long a prominent part of the Ford's design, also brought the car into modern times. The new trucks continued with the old grille. Other major changes for 1936 were the use of pressed steelsolid wheels instead of wire wheels.
