If you're a fan of the unusual, then this cool 1968 Ford Mustang GT should really grab your attention. First and foremost, it's a real-deal S-code 390 car, which is a fantastic find all by itself. Then you add in the awesome color combination, the ultra-rare bench seat option, and factory A/C, and you get a car that's going to make the numbers guys scratch their heads at every show. You're going to stop and admire any Mustang fastback, but painted in code A Raven Black and detailed with a red C-stripe, this one is especially appealing. The restoration is perhaps 25 years old, so it's not perfect and fresh, but when it comes to Mustangs, a bit of character is always welcome. That's not to say that it's not clean, because someone obviously spent a ton of cash on that restoration, because the car still shows quite well. The gaps are good, the sheetmetal is very straight, and in black, this car leaves no place for lousy workmanship to hide. There are a few blems in the paint, which you'd expect from a car that's built to drive, but once folks spot those GT emblems and hear the bark of the 390, all that little stuff is quickly forgotten. It does have all the correct GT details, too, including the grille-mounted fog lamps, correct gas cap, and twin pipes poking out from underneath. Along the way, it also received a set of flashy red pinstripes that highlight the fender line, an addition that's very welcome on this attractive fastback. The code 9D red interior might look a little unusual thanks to the factory bench seat, of which only 286 were built in 1968. Red upholstery is the perfect choice with black paint, and this car nails the upscale look that many buyers wanted in 1968. The fold-down armrest makes it comfortable for long cruises, and the deluxe steering wheel is perched atop a telescopic steering column, another relatively rare, luxury-oriented option. The gauges are in in good shape and remain fully functional, although the factory-issued AM/FM radio sadly is not. Carpets, door panels, and the fold-down rear seat are all in excellent condition and the A/C is complete and functional but may need a charge. The trunk is fitted with a correct mat and spare tire cover, making for a very clean presentation. The S-code 390 cubic inch V8 is the reason the Mustang was redesigned in 1967, and it's a neat fit here. With chrome valve covers and an open-element air cleaner, it has a showy look and the Ford Blue paint gives it a factory look. The A/C compressor dominates the top of the engine bay, but there's no mistaking the look of that big block crouching between the shock towers. It runs superbly thanks to a brand new Holley 4-barrel carburetor, distributor, coil, and a tune up, and it's been properly maintained over the years, so things like the fuel pump, master cylinder, heater core, and other parts are recent. The C6 3-speed automatic transmission was serviced just 200 miles ago and the brakes were rebuilt, including the lines. A new gas tank hangs out back and there are 3.25 gears in the rear axle, making this a fantastic highway cruiser. You also get power steering and power brakes, all tucked inside handsome GT-spec styled steel wheels and 215/70/14 blackwall radials.Highly desirable, very well optioned, and ready to enjoy, this is a blue-chip Mustang that will delight any Ford fan. And at this price, it's not likely to last very long, so call today!
