Phantom custom 1956 Ford Victoria
Description
The body is a low-roof 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria hardtop. I prefer the simpler trim of the 1955 Ford model, so I replaced the grille and side trim with those of a 1955 Customline. Other custom additions are '55 Merc station wagon taillights, '55 Olds headlights, '65 GTO hood scoop, 4 tailpipes notched into the rear bumper. Hood, deck, door handles and other emblems shaved. Various seams filled, bumper bolts filled and welded from the back. Electric remote door and trunk latches.
Bucket seats and wraparound rear seat are from a 1965 Thunderbird, 1964 Galaxie center console. All interior sheet metal, steering column and wheel painted Cadillac Polo Green. Satellite radio, not currently subscribed.
Chassis is lowered front and rear with Jamco lowering springs, Fatman front suspension uprights, lowering blocks, Bilstein shocks (front only). Power front disc brakes from Granada. Wheels are 15 X 6 steelies with 205/75-15 Diamondback whitewalls; hubcaps are 1956 Lincoln Premiere. No power steering, although it could definitely use it.
Car was featured in the May 2014 issue of Street Rodder Magazine. Won awards at the Lone Star Roundup, Grand National Roadster Show, West Coast Kustoms in Santa Maria, Goodguys events and elsewhere. A frequently heard comment is that it's the best-looking customized '55 or '56 Ford ever built; immodestly, I agree.
I thought I had the car sold to Australia, but the buyer had a medical emergency and had to cancel the sale. The car has been sitting unused for a couple of years, and its CA registration is currently Non-Op. There are some problems with the paint when viewed close up.
