1939 Ford Deluxe 2-Door Sedan - orig. rum runner
Description
1939 Ford Deluxe V-8 Model 91A 2-door sedan. Purchased from the Leith Collection, this beautiful automobile was sold new in Texas and used in the mountains of North Carolina to run "white lightning". As was typical of a moonshine car, the 221 cu. in. flathead V-8 and suspension was modified to out run the law. Legend has it that this car was never "caught" - always outrunning the revenuers - and the owner attributed his success (and luck) to the silver horse shoe he attached to the grill over 60 years ago which remains with the car today! The body and interior were restored approximately 18 years ago. Both show very little wear, since the car was in a museum for many years. The body fitment and black paint are exceptional. No bondo or accident repair is evident. Frame and body are rust free. The interior is correct and beautifully fresh. The flathead V-8 was recently tuned, and runs strong and smooth as it should. Carburetor recently rebuilt. New 6-volt battery. No smoke whatsoever. It retains the vintage Edelbrock heads and other high performance parts which were affixed to this beauty during it's "rum running" days. The 1937-1939 Fords are iconic and known to be one of the most beautifully styled automobiles of their time. The 1939's were the best of the bunch due to the introduction of hydraulic brakes. The art deco style of the exterior continues to the interior, from its banjo-style steering wheel (original) to its wood-grained door frames garnished with ivory plastic inserts. With its colorful history, this fine automobile is a piece of Americana, and will give the new owner many miles of enjoyment for years to come. We have driven the car many trouble-free miles since our purchase. Very reasonable reserve, so bid with confidence. Any questions, call Mike (609) 712-2423 or e-mail mikeeae@yahoo.com
