1970 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302 36,906 ORIGINAL MILES
Description
Built on 1/12/70 at the Metuchen Assembly Plant and purchased new by the original owner from Brooklyn Motors For, Baltimore Maryland on 3/06/70 . Sold to second owner on 10/22/71 to Mr & Mrs Pfeffer of Baltimore whose name is on the current 1971 Maryland Title and from whom I purchased this vehicle. Documented from birth to have lived in Maryland for 47 years and rescued from 25 year garage storage in 2016 with 36,900 miles . As original and unmolested as it wa, the storage was not ideal and the original paint could not be saved. A proper repaint would require a bare shell with glass out which started shortly after purchase. The goal of a factory authentic restoration required the use of single stage acrylic enamel paint which is amazingly smooth with no sanding and buffin, what you see is straight out of the gun and no clear coat . Of course a BOSS 302 is about the engine and this still has the numbers matching standard bore engine Metuchen workers installed in 1970 . Knowing about the weak TRW factory piston, I removed the oil pan and observed 3 cracked piston skirts . The engine was disassembled and NOS L2324 piston, ring, rod and main bearings were installed . All factory engine dimensions are still standard. Also original to this car are the carburetor, distributor, alternator, regulator, rev limiter, smog pump, water pump and fuel pump. The bottom side is very impressive with original black undercoating still on the rear frame rails. Factory applied markings that are still visible : Leaf Springs - factory stamped part number is clear . Driveshaft - 3 rings of paint and Yellow / Red marks on yokes. Transmission - Yellow and Green letters and numbers . The numerous pictures taken during the restoration document these 47 year old marks that are clearly visible and not reproduced ! The black deluxe interior survived pretty well as the front and rear seat upholstery is original along with the Philco AM Radio. Softer interior panels that could not be save, such as carpet and headline, were replaced with Ford Tooling replacements . Mechanical systems replaced with new : Clutc, Tires, Brake, Exhaust System. Here are the dates and codes I found during the restoration :Engine Block - DOZE6015A 9M3 Cylinder Head - 0298 on back drivers sideExhaust Manifolds - C9ZE9431A C9ZE9428ATrans - RUG AV 014946 029 stamped on top Wide RatioRear - 3.50 ConventionalTail Light Panel - 12 23 D2Left Fender - 12 2 D2Right Fender - 11 30 D2Rear Valance - 12 22 B2Radiator Support - 12 2 2Tag Bracket - 11 24 3Bell Housing Plate - 11 12 69 2Trans Mount Bracket - 12 17 A 2Oil Pan - 9 8 69 2Pedal Assembly - 12 8 D3Heater Box - H9M 23ARight Door Hinge - 12 8 3FLeft Door Hinge - 12 19 3FCowl Panel - 10 12 9 Fully sorted with all systems workin, starts right u, idles smoot, approx. 100 test miles since completion. The pictures tell the story and I have many more of the entire restoration including all internal engine parts that were taken during engine assembly.
