Description

Available for sale is a 1965 Mustang Coupe with the factory optional 289 high performance engine producing 271 horsepower, designated by the fifth character of the VIN being "K."
This car was delivered from the factory in Wimbledon White over Palomino standard interior. The Mustang was built in San Jose with a scheduled build date of November 3, 1964 and delivered to Phoenix (DSO 75) and sold at Sanco Ford (dealer emblem on tail light panel) in New Mexico. A basic optioned car, current features include am radio with reverb unit and styled steel wheels. This car was also a windshield washer delete car.
Still has the original Ford 289/427 high performance supplement booklet.
VIN 5R07K154353 (matches inner fender apron, door tag, title, and engine VIN stamp)
Door tag: Body 63A Color M Interior 29 Date 3L DSO 75 Gear ratio 5 Transmission 5
The car has had a recent tune up including plugs, coil wires, rotor, points, condenser, rotor, battery, and rebuilt original carburetor. New radiator hoses and battery tray have also been installed. Recent compression test shows all cylinders at 136-145 psi.
Drivetrain:
- VIN stamped original solid lifter engine matching VIN on engine apron and door tag
- Original engine tag with "554J" still present on intake manifold
- Original air cleaner and base
- Hipo heads both marked 19 on ends
- Original Hipo 4 blade fan
- Original Hipo exhaust manifolds
- Original "Fomoco" stamped dual point distributor - C5OF-12127
- Original C4OF-AL manual choke hipo carb recently rebuilt
- C8ZE balancer; original date code correct (J4) C5OE balancer available
- HEH-T close ratio 4 speed transmission (VIN stamped 5R09K; not original to this car)
- C4ZE Y2 manual transmission radiator
- Original alternator with larger pulley not installed but comes with car
- Fan shroud with stapled rubber pad
- Correct 1965 9" rear end housing with hipo snubber. Open rear end with 3.50 gears
- Original 1965 hipo motor mounts
Suspension/brakes/wheels:
- Koni front shocks/KYB rear gas shocks
- Front disc brakes (Granada) and rear drums. Car stops well and in a straight line.
- Manual steering; correct 16:1 steering box with HCC-AX tag
- 14" styled steel wheels
Interior:
- Palomino interior in nice shape, no tears in upholstery
- Original white headliner has one small tear at front near driver's side A pillar
- 8,000 rpm high profile rally pac (tach works intermittently and clock works)
- All dash gauges, AM radio, and heater work as they should
Body:
- Re-painted Wimbledon white in the mid-1990s per previous owner. Various paint chips and touch ups around the car.
- Minor bubbling on the passenger quarter panel, probably related to bad paint prep
- Hood needs minor adjustment on passenger side, I just haven't had time to do so
- Very small (size of a pencil eraser) paint bubble on driver's side door skin near front of door. Underside and seams of doors are rust free.
- Quarters have been replaced at some point in the car's past
- Floors/underside have minor surface rust and dents (no rust through)
- All exterior chrome/stainless is in used driver condition and has dings, scratches, etc.
- Prior owner added rear GT valance with cutouts and GT exhaust tips though this car is not a GT (too early to be one). I added the GT fog lights as I liked the look but they aren't full hooked up yet. I can remove and replace with standard horse and bars if buyer wishes.
The car is 52 years old and is not a fully restored concours car and is not without its flaws. Although, it is a good running and driving 1965 K code mustang. I've owned it for approximately 4 years. A recent purchase of another collector car is the reason for selling now. Clear WA title in my name. Car is sold as-is, where-is with no implied or expressed warranty or guarantee provided by seller.
