1989 Mustang 5.0 Convertible
Description
I'm selling my 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 convertible that I have owned since 2002. It was originally a 2.3 4 cylinder that my father and I converted to a 5.0 V8 in 2010. We changed everything over from a parts car so it was done properly.
All of the modifications I have done to it were to make it a fun, reliable car that I could drive anywhere. It runs great, shifts even better, and does not feel like a 28 year old car. Everything works on it. It has not been driven in the winter since I have owed it and I tried to avoid the rain as much possible too. I am only selling it because I bought a new project car. I have enjoyed this car a lot over the last 15 years and I hope someone else will too. Please see below for condition and modifications.
Paint:
The car was repainted in 2002 in the factory Oxford white. It is still in good condition but is starting to show its age. Some chips and light scratches.
Body:
The body is in very good condition with 162k miles. There is some light surface rust starting on the door jams and a few tiny spots on the front fenders. There is some slight surface rust here and there on the underside. There is no major rust. The floors, torque boxes, and strut towers are solid.
There is a small dent in the driver's side rear quarter panel above the corner of the taillight.
The top and frame were swapped from a 1993 Mustang. They are in good condition and the rear window is new.
Newer headlights with LED headlight bulbs.
Interior:The interior is in excellent condition. It has new carpet, custom upholstery, new front seat belts, and new LED gauge lights. It also has new speakers all around and a new amp to power them. The radio is from an early 2000s Mustang that I have modified to have bluetooth. It will play music from your phone. It also has a new headliner.
Engine:
I do not know the exact miles on the bottom end of the engine since it was from a parts car. I would guess over a 100k, but it runs great. All of the gaskets were replaced during the engine swap in 2010. Since then I have added new Trickflow 170 twisted wedge heads, new Scorpion 1.72 roller rockers, new Trickflow harden push rods, new Ford Racing lifters, new spark plugs, new oxygen sensors, Explorer upper and lower intake (lower intake was ported by Tmoss), Explorer 65mm throttle body, 24 lb injectors, new 155 lph fuel pump, Taurus electric fan, and a Moates F3 chip tuned by Dirty Dirty Racing. It still has the stock cam but it a lot of fun to drive and very street friendly. I also upgraded the alternator to a 130 amp 3G one with 4 gauge wiring.New battery.
No A/C or Smog pump as the parts car did not have them.
The rear main seal has a small leak.
Exhaust:
Shorty headers, Bassani X-pipe with cats, Borla ProXS mufflers, and Dynomax tailpipes.
Drivetrain:
AOD that was rebuilt in 2013 and can handle 450 hp. It has an A+ overdrive servo and Silverfox SPT-R valvebody that can be shifted 1-2-3 and OD is on a switch. It has stamped steel drums, upgraded snap rings, and one way clutches. The torque converter was built by Dirty Dog Racing and has a 2500 stall and eliminates the direct drive. No worrying about snapping the input shaft.
Rear end has 3.73 gears with new seals. Driveshaft has new u-joints.
Brakes:
New calipers, pads, rotors, drums, shoes, and wheel bearings.
Suspension:
ALL of the bushings on the car were replaced with polyurethane ones in 2010 during the swap. The only one that wasn't was on the rear end where the upper control arms connect. It has tubular upper and lower rear control arms and welded in subframe connectors. The springs are from a 2001 Bullitt that gives it about a 0.75 inch drop. Struts and shocks are Tokico HP.
New steering rack, end links, and tie rod ends.
Wheels:
ROH Snyper 4-Lug - Excellent condition - 17x8 front, 17x9 rear
Sumitomo HTR+ 245/35/ZR17 front.
Sumitomo HTG+ 255/45/ZR17 rear.
TLDR: Originally 4 cylinder converted to V8 with lots of new parts. Everything works. Very reliable and fun to drive. New interior.
