Description

Don’t want to spend the adsorbent amount of money on a rare mustang such as a GT, a Shelby, a 2 + 2, or a Hi-Po engine, but still want a rare, unique 60’s mustang? Then take a look at this one!

This is a 1965 Ford Mustang hardtop, 289 V8, 2 barrel with the original power steering and original power brakes (which were both factory options) still in the car.

The car needs to be fully restored, so if you are looking for a project muscle car that will be a lot of fun to restore, with some cool rare, unique stuff, than look no further! The car has a CLEAN TITLE in my name that I have in hand.

I bought this car about a year and a half ago with the intent to do a concourse restore, but the person who was going to help me restore it is no longer in my life and I do not possess all the knowledge or tools to do it correctly myself at the quality I would want it to be done.It has been garaged the entire time I have owned it and stored along with DampRid to prevent further rust.THE CAR IS PAINTED A BURGENDY RUST COLOR SO DO NOT CONFUSE THAT COLOR WITH ACTUAL RUST AS IT IS HARD TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE PICTURES (please email me with any questions you have about it).I decided to put the mustang up for sale because it deserves to go to someone else who can love it as much as I do, but will restore it SOON as I don’t want it to rust away.THIS IS JUST NOT THE MUSTANG TO HASH AND HACK!I am hoping it will go to someone who will do a concourse restore since it is believed to be all original and has some very cool, rare attributes.

VERY RARE!!--- The car comes with the ORIGINAL1965 REGISTERED OWNER’S MANUAL pamphlet that was given out by Ford dealerships to the original owners who bought their mustangs! It is pictured above front and back.As you can see from the pictures, it is still in pretty good condition! It states it is the 5th printing - January 1965 Ford Motor Company. It still has the original owner card holder envelope in it.It states the car’s warranty was registered on 6/3/1965 to Center City Motors dealership at 1159 India in San Diego, CA.It states the name and address of the original owners (which I covered up).It was hand-signed by the dealership and includes the Ford warranty # which matches the warranty code # listed on the tag on the driver’s door. The Vehicle Code # on the pamphlet also matches the Vehicle Code # on the driver’s door tag as well (June 2, 1965).I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE OF THESE BEFORE WITH ANY 1960’S MUSTANG!!Please look at both pictures to see for yourself.

VERY RARE!!--- The ORIGINALfront license plate is still on the car and is a CALIFORNIA BLACK PLATE!(The original rear California black plate has been lost to time.)I have spoken to the California DMV who has confirmed that this plate number matches their records for belonging to this car. They also told me the car has never had a license plate change request. This is important as they stated they do not reissue license plates with the same number, so the car would have a different license plate (so hence not the original one) if the license plates had ever been replaced. So they believe the license plate to be the original California black plate from 1965 (which matches what the prior owner told me)!! TALK ABOUT RARE!!As you can see from the picture, the license plate will need to be restored as the entire original paint is gone, there is surface rust and the paint has all fallen off from that, but I do not see any other real damage. It is very restorable though and there are companies out there (even online) that will do so for you at a reasonable price.

CONDITION:

As far as I know and have been told when I bought the mustang from the prior owner, EVERTYHING ON THE CAR IS ORIGINAL TO THE CAR.I am not an expert and the car has not been taken apart, so please look at the pictures to decide this for yourself! You can also email me any questions you have and I will try to get the answers for you.All in all, the car is in good shape for its age and is highly restorable.

Again, I am hoping it will go to someone who is willing to put in the time to just fix everything and keep it as original as possible. There is rust showing on the car including underneath it and in the engine bay.A lot of it is surface rust and can be media blasted off, but there are rusted-out spots on the car in all the normal areas for a 1960s mustang. But I am told that most of the sheet metal is not past being able to be fixed. The rear quarter panels, the rocker panels, the trunk, etc. do have some areas rotted out and you will need to weld in some patches.

Everything in the engine bay appears to be all there and all original to the car, the complete engine, the radiator, the transmission, the power steering, the power brakes, the air cleaner, etc.

Everything in the interior of the car also appears to be there and original to the car. This includes the headliner, the carpet, the gauges, the dash, all of the knobs and levers, the steering wheel, the chrome horn, the shifter, etc. It all appears to be there. There is a small piece of the instrument panel on the far right side that has a small chunk missing.I do see some surface rust inside the car such as on the blinker signaler and on the posts for the accelerator and the brakes, on the steering column, and on the springs that are inside the rear seat. The seats are all original. Both of the front seats have some rips in the seat parts. The upper part of the driver’s seat does lean a little towards the door, but I was told it is fixable. The rear seat has a couple of rips in it as well.I would replace the original carpet and seat cushions, but you might be able to reuse the metal guts of the seats (they need to be media blasted) and repair/resew the vinyl coverings if you want to save them. There are companies out there who can do this for you.

I did not want to remove anything as I wanted to keep it all original so please understand I have no way to say for certain what you will find in regard to rust once you strip the car down to nothing because the car is still currently painted with everything still installed together.I have purposely kept it in the condition I bought it in.That being said, a lot of the body can be saved if you are willing to put in the work as I have been told that most of the rust on the car is surface rust and can be media blasted off.BEAR IN MIND THERE ARE A TON OF AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR 1960S MUSTANGS INCLUDING SHEETMETAL!IN FACT, ONE CAN BUY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING FOR THESE CARS! THERE IS A LOT OF ORIGINAL OEM REPLACEMENT PARTS FROM THE 1960S FOR SALE ONLINE THAT ARE STILL NEW IN THE BOX.

The current paint job is very old and is damaged all-over from old age.It looks like it is just falling/peeling off.I was told the white you see in the pictures is primer. The car looks to be the original factory color listed on the door tag (X) which is Vintage Burgundy Metallic.I don’t know if the paint job is original or not.It if is not the original paint job, it was repainted a long, long time ago.Expect to fully repaint it.

At some point, the front end was damaged as the front fender is dented in and it looks like the mesh on the grill got bent.I think it pushed everything in that area off a bit.The trunk lid has a 6” x ¼” dent on it.THE REST OF THE BODY IS VERY STRAIGHT AND I CANNOT FIND ANY DAMAGE OUTSIDE OF THE RUST AND THE PAINT FALLING OFF.Even the rear bumper is in great shape.

All the windows are in perfect condition though some green mold is growing on them which should clean off.(I did not wash or do anything to the car to try and hide anything before taking pictures for this auction.Again, I have kept it as I bought it.)I have no way to tell if all the glass is original but at least you won’t have to replace any of it.If any of the glass has been replaced, it is very old.The driver’s window does not stay all the way up so some part inside the door is broken. As a consequence, there is rust inside the driver’s door because of moisture getting in this way. The parts to fix it are easy to obtain.

All four tires on the car are rotted and two of them are flat (bear that in mind when you come to get it as you will need to have the entire car lifted off the ground to tow it).THE CAR COMES WITH A SEPARATE SET OF FOUR USED TIRES in the original size Ford used, P195/75R14, so you will have no problems getting them to fit the rims. These are used but in good condition. They came off of a 1965 mustang that got some new tires put on it.I purchased them from the owner of this mustang and he said he drove all over to car shows on these tires just fine. They look to have 50-75% tread left.I planned on using the tires to just have something for the car to roll on while it was being restored, but they should be good enough to drive on for a while.I never put them on the car because the original rims have surface rust and need to be media blasted first before mounting these tires on the rims and I had no way to do so.Also, I know tires go bad quickly from the weight of the car if they are just left in storage and I didn’t want them to go flat.I was told by the prior owner the rims on the car are the originals which look to be reusable.I’m not an expert, but I’m not seeing any damage to the rims that would prevent them from being used once they are media blasted. The car also comes with all four + a spare of what I was told were the original 1965 mustang hubcaps.I’ve included a picture above. The car also comes with what I was told was the original spare tire rim(which currently has a rotted-out tire on it) but I have no way of checking on that to find out for certain. I included a picture.

There is a box of small parts for the car that I have included a picture of.The parts all appear to be original to the car, including the original brake cover that states “power” on it.

All of the original exterior chrome parts are still on the car and appear to be in good shape but should be re-chromed.The original “FORD” emblem is still on the hood.ALL the ORIGINAL chrome molding around the windows and doors are still attached to the car and are in great condition and I was told original to the car by the prior owner. The original chrome quarter panel ornaments are both still on the sides of the car.The original “pony & corral” front grill ornament is also still on the car in good condition. The original grill is all there minus one of the light bars on the driver’s side of the “pony and corral” emblem. Both of the original door sill plates are there and are in good condition. The original antenna has been broken off but the original chrome base is still there and in good shape. Both of the original exterior chrome handles are on the car.The original chrome driver’s door mirror is also still on the car and in good condition but the chrome is bubbling off. Both of the original windshield wipers are also still on the car and in good condition. Both of the original chrome door lock cylinders and trunk lock cylinder are still on the car.The original rear tail lights and their chrome coverings are also still on the car.Note:There is no “V8” chrome emblems on the front quarter panels as Ford only put them on their V8s that had the 4 barrel carburetors on it and this mustang came with the 2 barrel.

One of the original trunk keys is included with the sale and I have added a picture. The car also comes with the original key replacement tag that is lying next to the key in the picture.I covered up the number of course.

**The sale will include two 100% original doors from a 1966 Mustang parts car.**Pictures are above. These are complete doors so the inside panels, the windows, the door handles, everything (the driver’s door in the picture has the inside panel and knobs taken off which can be in seen the spare parts picture) .1965 and 1966 mustang parts are interchangeable.I planned on using parts of the skin to replace the rusted out ones on the car, so you will have original Ford Mustang sheet metal to work with.I CANNOT GUARANTEE WHAT YOU WILL FIND ON THESE DOORS ONCE YOU REMOVE THE PAINT.Everything else on these doors (the windows are prefect) can then be sold (they will be gobbled up!).

**The sale will include a 100% original, complete, authentic FORD air conditioning system from a 1966 Mustang parts car.**These are getting pretty RARE!The entire system is there! The firewall bracket and grommet, the air conditioning dash spacer bar, hoses, the compressor, the condenser, etc.I’ve included a picture. I have no way to know if it works, so I would just assume the system would need to be restored.

**The sale will include two 100% original black, inside door panels from a 1966 Mustang parts car.**Again, a picture is included. They are not mint, like-new but are in very good shape for their age.Pictures are above.

THE CAR’S HISTORY:

Per the door tag code, (R), the car was built at the San Jose, CA plant on the second day of June, 1965 (02T) and then sold on 6/3/1965 in San Diego, CA from the Center City Motors Ford dealership, per the Registered Owner’s Manual. The mustang appears to have stayed in California until the 1990s.The car was last registered in California from 6/26/1996 to 6/26/1997.This would match the “June” 1965 date the car was sold in regards to the original California black license plate (the car was sold in June and the license tags were from June to June). In the 2000s, it was then taken to Washington State and registered on 3/2008 at which time it was given a Washington plate number in order to title it, but WA plates were never issued with that owner. It was given another license plate number when I bought the car in 2016 but again, plates were never actually issued as the car does not run.Based on the condition of the car, I don’t think it has been driven since 1997 in California which is why it is still all original.I also found a large stash of coins in the ashtray and the earliest coin in the pile was from 1994 which furthers my suspicions that the car has not been driven since the mid-90s.I know the man I bought the car from bought it without it running and told me the man he bought it from stated it was in the same un-drivable condition when he brought it up from California. The prior owner I bought the car from did nothing to the car and just parked it and did nothing to it as his wife got ill and that is why he eventually sold it to me.It had just been sitting at his place. He told me the man he bought it from suddenly had nowhere to store it and had to sell it quickly (this is the man who had brought it up from California). This person did take the fuel tank out, cleaned it and then welded it back in but he stated he did nothing else to the car.I don’t think he put protectant on it as the inside of the gas tank now has rust in it which I can see when I take the fuel tank cap off.He also took the flat center part of the inside of the fuel tank cap out and replaced it with a Seahawk emblem so the original is missing.

I’ve described the car as accurately as possible with all the issues I know of.

The car is sold as-is so please ask any questions you have before you buy.
