Description

Sporting a revitalized color scheme both inside and out, but otherwise one of those rare muscle cars left in stock configuration, this 1971 Ford Mustang represents a great opportunity for its next lucky owner to pick up a stylish, classic ride that not only looks great, but stands at the ready to hit the road and provide you with miles and miles of motoring memories.
At first glance, the Medium Yellow Gold exterior, accented by factory-correct black striping, is likely what you would have already conjured up in your mind's eye with the mere mention of this year and model. A great example of the accenting sensibilities of the era, the stripes look very fresh, with nice sharp edges. Just a little higher you'll find a truly inspired feature -that brown vinyl top sits in place of the usual black. It certainly sets this Mustang apart - a welcome change from the norm, it's not only in great condition but is an outstanding match for the exterior color. The 1971s represented a new direction for the Mustang, and while more substantial than its predecessors, it remains an agile, yet refined looking car. Those twin scoops on the hood are more subtle than most and the sloping "tunnel back" rear window is very much in keeping with Ford's intention to add a bit more of a luxurious look while retaining the Mustang's original identity.
Just as with the vinyl top, the rich, brown (officially called Ginger) upholstery inside is a perfect complement to this Mustang's exterior. Impressively refurbished to match the original specifications, the interior looks great and appears to have seen very few occupants - there are no telltale wrinkles or wear spots on either the buckets in front or the bench seat in back. Take a look at the door panels, as they provide further indication as to just how well this interior work was performed - there's no perceptible slack in either of them and they sit impressively flush against their frame, as does the headliner above. Just beyond the stock steering wheel, the instrument panel also retains its original configuration, still housing easily readable gauges. It's a very comfortable environment inside, with the relatively longer wheelbase affording more legroom and the air conditioning that's in good form, standing at the ready to keep you and your occupants comfortable. Needing only a proper mat to tidy it up a bit, the trunk features a full sized spare and jack at the ready should you need them.
Underneath the hood sits a 351-cubic inch V8. Performance-wise, it's a substantial step up from the 302 that was also offered that year, especially as far as low-end acceleration is concerned. It starts right up, runs nice and smooth, and is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission that shifts with reassuring precision. This is an undeniably road-ready muscle car. By many accounts, Ford was well ahead of its competitors at this time as far as power steering was concerned and, equipped with power brakes on all four wheels - discs in front - it has all the stopping power you'd need in every day driving conditions. This Ford classic sits with a stock stance on a set of 14" stock rims, wrapped with Cooper Cobra tires.
