This is my 1986 Ford F250 Lariat 4WD with 57,610 original miles. The truck is in stunning condition. I can't imagine that you'd be able to find another for sale that is so original and in such good condition. It really is a time capsule back to 1986. I bought this truck from my uncle who, I believe, bought it from the original owner.
This is the original paint, original interior, original motor. The dash and seat appear to have been covered for the life of the vehicle. Even the bed had a rubber mat protecting it from anything that was hauled. The body panels are all straight and completely rust free. Looking at the body from underneath is amazing. It's hardly even dirty! The paint still has its shine, although the doors have lost some of their gloss compared to the fenders.
Everything works - cruise control, AC, 4wd, etc. It starts up, runs and drives nice. It's quiet inside and the seat is cushy. Never had it run hot. I bought this to pull the occasional car on a trailer, which it does extremely well. The engine makes a good amount of torque. It's a 460 big block, carbureted. Cruising at 65 mph you'll see ~2400 rpms. The four speed manual transmission shifts perfectly and the clutch also feels perfect. First gear is really low. I only use it when pulling a trailer.
The only modifications from stock is the bush guard on the front bumper, the big rear bumper with tow hitch, brake controller under the dash and air bags on the rear leaf springs which can re-level the truck under heavy load and support additional weight. The camper shell has been added in the back, and the bed has some diamond plating protecting the bed uprights and the inside of the tail gate.
I just had the AC system serviced. It has been converted to R-134a but it wasn't holding a charge. Turned out to be loose fittings which were replaced along with some new seals. It blows super cold now and is holding the charge.
I also just had the radiator flushed and the oil changed. After changing the oil, I noticed a leak from the rear of the oil pan. It looks like it's been there for a while but I never noticed it or I would have replaced the oil pan gasket. Shouldn't be too bad to do. Looks like there is room underneath to drop the pan down without jacking up the motor.
The truck does have a couple quirks. When braking, sometimes you can hear a pop coming from the rear of the truck as if something is shifting. It's always done it and hasn't gotten any worse and I have never been able to figure out where it's coming from. Tried lubing the leaf springs thinking they might be binding, but that apparently wasn't it.
Additionally the forward fuel tank only reports 1/2 full when completely full, although when it says it's empty, it really is empty. I had the fuel pump fail on me and I replaced the whole assembly with an aftermarket one. I believe the aftermarket one had the wrong ohm rating, thus the gauge being off.
The title is clean, I have it in hand. Also I just recently had it smogged (passed with flying colors) so the registration is good until May 2018.
I have more photos than I could post here. If you want more photos, want photos of anything specific or have any questions I can answer for you, let me know. I also have the truck for sale locally.
