1993 Ford Bronco Prerunner 'The Juice' - famous magazine project truck
Description
This is the famous 'Juice' Bronco built in Off-Road Magazine and later DirtSports Magazine. It's not a 'similar' build or a copy, it's the original.
Modifications were documented by articles in the magazines, with the goal of creating a super-capable prerunner that could also hit 4x4 trails--all while carrying the whole family comfortably.
The majority of the work was done at Camburg Engineering and Off-Road Evolution, both respected fabricators with extensive race experience.
At Camburg Engineering, the beams were removed, cut, turned, and extended 4 inches. An engine cage was created to mount the shocks and to enhance general front-end stiffness.
Camburg radius arms with heim joints were utilized, and Bilstein 9100 series 14-inch stroke remote-reservoir shocks were paired with Bilstein hydraulic bumpstops. Inside the front axle, a Detroit Truetrac, 4.88 gears, Currie axleshafts, and Warn hubs are utilized.
Travel is strapped at 19 inches. EBC brake rotors and pads.
Rolling stock consists of 5x 37-inch General Grabber competitions mounted on forged Centerline wheels.
The rear end is a Currie F9 race housing with Currie 3rd member, a Detroit Truetrac, 4.88 gears, and Currie shafts. The axle connects to the driveshaft with an upgraded '1350'-style yoke.
Deaver J40 leaf packs are mated to Camburg extended-travel shackles. An AutoFab shock mount allows for 12-inch stroke Bilstein 9100 shocks to be used, as well as Pure Performance hydraulic bumpstops.
Rear brakes have been converted to discs by using Baer Brakes components. Travel is estimated at 18 inches.
The front bumper was created and TIG welded by KibbeTech in Simi Valley and features a LazerStar LED bar with both spot and flood capability.
Fiberglass fenders, hood, and rear fenders by McNeil Racing/Perry's.
The powerplant is a direct-replacement crate engine that was provided by ATK. It has approximately 15k miles on it. It breathes through a K&N Gen2 intake, a BBK throttle body, a Magnaflow performance catalytic converter, and a Flowmaster muffler.
Spark is provided by an MSD ignition box, MSD coil, MSD billet distributor, and MSD Super Conductor wires.
Engine accessories include a PowerMaster high-output alternator and spin on BBK underdrive pulleys.
A dual battery setup has been installed, with a Perfect Switch Dual Rectifier used to send correct current to the auxiliary Optima battery.
Two Derale Atomic-Cool transmission coolers sit in front of the Flex-a-Lite aluminum radiator, which is equipped with two electric fans of its own.
Steering box, pump, and cooling reservoir by PSC.
A twin-compressor 'Extreme Air' onboard air system by ViAir is tucked underneath the frame with a hose outlet at the driver's side wheel well.
The transmission is an E40D build by Performance Transmissions in Torrance, CA. It features five-gear planetaries, billet shafts, and a TransGo shift kit.
The transmission is held in place by AutoFab mounts.
The transfer case has been fitted with a magnetic speed sensor that feeds info to the transmission and speedometer.
Front and rear driveshafts were built by Arizona Driveshaft in Mesa, AZ.
Inside, Corbeau wide-body LG1 reclining seats are mounted in the front. The rear bench has matching Corbeau upholstery but maintains the factory folding capability. A Grant race steering wheel has been installed.
Corbeau five-point harnesses are included new in the box, but have not been mounted to the seats.
It's an extremely functional, capable, and enjoyable SUV that can hit the whoops at 85mph or take your family to the grocery store.
That said, it is a driver--meant to be used. You'll see evidence of previous use - 'Arizona pinstripes', dings, and other wear.
The dual battery setup is in place but not wired. The Alpine stereo/DVD player is not currently wired up. The AC doesn't always blow cold. A back bumper was never built. The passenger seat does not recline.
However, this Bronco is mechanically intact; the engine and the rest of the drivetrain were recently serviced to ensure proper operation. With purchase I will include magazines featuring the Bronco. Price is firm, not interested in trades (saving for a tow rig).
The Bronco is garaged in Tempe, AZ.
