1964 FORD FAIRLANE 500 THUNDERBOLT CANDIDATE OR GREAT DRIVER
Description
Beautiful piece of history, would have a place in any fairlane club or car show.I bought this car with a bad engine last year, it was already a 289/ C4, no sign of the 260 and cruise-o-matic. block was bad in one cylinder so I replaced it. Currently a 289 .030” over, new rings bearings and gaskets. I left off the extremely heavy iron intake and went with an aluminum Edelbrock with adapter to use original 2bbl. Original intake can go with the car. Starts and runs great! The original generator is in place and operational, dash indicator still works- late model alternator is highly recommended and would probably save 40 lbs off the right front corner of this car! After replacing the engine I also checked and cleaned the brakes, all four drum with mason jar master cylinder, they work good and pedal is high and firm. I replaced one rear wheel seal and topped off rear end fluid. I replaced all 4 shocks. I did buy a washer bag to install in place of the missing original- I’m having a hard time not buying stuff for this car, it’s so fun! Original wiring is in place, lights work, hi a d low beams also brake lights and turn signals as I just replaced switch. Heater is hooked up and operational. I added an electric radiator fan as the one on it was a after market flex fan without shroud so the electric was best option. I also replaced the radiator with a new aluminum one- its stays at 180 degrees now without any problems. Wheels and tires are later mustang with spinner caps, tires are new 215/65/16- plenty of room to upgrade brakes.
This is the SMALL BACK WINDOW 2 door post- the only year model used for the Thunderbolt
This car could be a daily driver, just put gas in it and go! Previous owner was the little old lady from Pasadena- no joke, check history, this car was built in Santa Cruz and and registered in Pasadena, CA. FOR sure owned by an artist as everything that was ever off the car was painted and reinstalled, maybe the reason that it is such an awesome survivor!
If I had the chance I would turn it into today’s version of the thunderbolt..... THUNDERBOLT 2.0. 427 stroker 500 hp, race prepped HUGHES C4, fiberglass bumpers, hood, deck lid, doors, mustang II front end, four link independent 9” rear with discs and this thing would be a monster- its just time and Money!
This is not a galaxie falcon mustang its a one year only fairlane- the right year and the right body
