** Only 3692 Sportsman convertibles were produced by Ford Motor Company between 1946 and 1947 a few being titled as 1948 models. In my mind the most Iconic Post War Vehicle ever built!
**When I was 16 yrs of age my Uncle had a Sportsman that he had purchased new he gave it to me as my high school beater (my first car), she was not a concourse winner but I loved her all the same. When you drive a Sportsman everyday you find out her little nuances quickly. The hydraulic window lifts rarely worked, and boy did she squeak and rattle .. I named her the "Stage coach".. affectionately of course as I loved the lines and the Wood was outrageous.
**Once I graduated University and started out in my Health care Career I purchased all the normal cars guy buy.. "Porsche', Ferrari, Lamborghini".. and during the 90's got into Rolls and Bentley and otherEnglishcars..once I hit my 50's I started to think about American Post War vehicles, the love affair started (I suppose getting old or Smart..Not sure which)?
**A few years ago, I found a nice 1946 Ford Sportsman posted at $140,000 and thought wow that is a deal, I flew out and test drove what I felt was "the perfect car".. in my mind I had discounted all those quirky nuances I had known those years ago. I started her up and put her in gear and started off driving, and instantly the "Stage coach".. came back to life.. rattles and rolls.. UGH.. this was not the memory I wanted..
**The idea came to me to make a Wood cladded car, while visiting a Car show I saw a 1948 Chevrolet Country Club and thought.. "I can make a Ford Sportsman Tribute!".. I asked the owner of the 1948 Chevrolet Country Club if I could drive it - he threw me the keys- amazingly the car drove quietly no rattles - no shakes- no rolling!!.. Nirvana.. the idea was born..
**I purchased the nicest Ford Convertible (Super Deluxe) I could find in the Western USA (Nevada) a dry weather great example owned by a US Senator (Retired) I had Solid Hardwood panels installed and what I have here is what I think is the Embodiment of the perfect Post Car Vehicle.
