Description

The 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 was the last, and arguably, the best of the breed. These rare snake-bitten 'Stangs truly got their own identity to go with the big Cobra Jet V8. So to find one in the right colors, low mileage, and an interesting story is just the cherry on top.Acapulco Blue isn't just a cool name for you paint, but it's also one of the coolest colors offered on the meanest Mustang around. The factory-correct color looks great today thanks to a professional respray, and the white stripe package gives it the unmistakable appearance of a true American racer. The unique front end's deep recess looks like it's ready to consume every lesser car out there. The sequential taillights and center exhaust meant everyone you pass gets to see some swagger. Of course this car was built to be cool, literally, with five NACA ducts on the hood and inlets to rush air over every single brake. All the right badging is still in place with the coiled snake in the grille, 428 callouts on the fenders, cobras on each sail panel, and the unmistakable SHELBY in block letters out back. But the insignia you might love the most are the little cobras in the center cap of each of the cool cast aluminum wheels. The top-of-the-line GT500 got Ford's top interior, the white Clarion knit buckets. It really does look fantastic as it coordinates nicely with the exterior stripe. Sporty Shelby upgrades included a roll bar with shoulder harnesses, and a center console with its own auxiliary gauges canted towards the driver. But Ford's aim in '69 was to make sure that when their customers paid a premium for these Shelbys they got a premium feeling, too. That's why you have a three-spoke wood steering wheel with the Cobra logo and a full gauge package that included the 140 MPH speedo and 8,000 RPM tach. This one is so well preserved, even the clock still works! In fact, we have a hard time spotting elements that are not from '69. The three upgrades that standout are new carpeting, a more modern AM/FM/cassette stereo (still in vintage knob-style), and the air conditioning has been converted to R134a for easy servicing. We told you this car has an interesting story to tell, and it's under the hood. Ford's 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet engine was one of the most potent machines on the street and under-rated at 335 horsepower. The enormous torque will spin the tires on demand, and it's one of the few cars that can approach the top end of its speedometer. The motor you're looking at appears stock right down to the Ram Air induction. It's not the same one that was installed in the spring of 1969. Instead, it's a warranty replacement motor that was installed by Ford three months later. It makes this coupe highly original with some interesting distinction. We know this is a car that's been treated well all its life and it's believed to have averaged less than 1,200 miles per year. It has even had an expensive service this spring that included a tune up, new radiator, new master cylinder, new rear axle seals, and much more. The growl of the exhaust tells the world this is something fierce, but the experience behind the wheel is much more versatile. The C6 three-speed automatic is stout enough to handle all the motor's power, and it also makes it effortless around town. Plus, features like the power steering, front disc brakes, and 3.00 rear end make this Shelby an easy choice for much more than just powering in-between stoplights. This GT500 comes complete with plenty of documentation, including the original dealer invoice, factory buildsheet, and title docs. We even have the Marti Report that tells you this car is only one of 10 equipped this way. A solid investment and a solid driver; it's time you put a rare snake in your garage. Call today!!!
