1966 Ford Mustang GT, A Code 4 Speed
Description
This 1966 Ford Mustang GT was built in February 1966 and sold new by Mahwah Ford in Mahwah, New Jersey. its original A-code 289ci V8, 4-speed manual transmission, and limited-slip rear end, factory options include the GT equipment group and Rally Pac. The second owner conducted a rotisserie restoration in 1986-1988 that included a glass-out repaint in the original Vintage Burgundy Metallic finish. The car was campaigned in the Mustang Club of America (MCA) show circuit in 1989, which resulted in 15 best of show and 1st place awards. Purchased by the seller two year ago, this Mustang shows 563 miles since the restoration and is sold with its window sticker, awards list, several period literature, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller's name.
The car was reportedly stripped to bare metal prior to being repainted on a rotisserie in the correct Vintage Burgundy Metallic (X) color. The seller reports the older finish is starting to show its age with checking displayed in some areas and a dent in the front valance.
Details unique to the GT package include a grill bar with integrated fog lamps, GT rocker stripes in place of molding, dual exhaust exiting out the rear valance, larger brakes, and improved handling components. The factory optioned 14″ style steel wheels are shod with a complete set of BF Goodrich redline tires.
This example was optioned with a full-length center console, AM radio, and Rally Pac, featuring a tachometer and clock mounted to the steering column. Several period instructional tags adorn the cabin, and the five-digit odometer was reset at the time of the restoration, with 563 miles currently shown.
The black vinyl upholstery retains taut surfacing and appears free of any rips, tears, or seam separations.
The engine bay has been refinished and the A-code 289ci V8 produced 225 horsepower when new and sends power through a 4-speed manual transmission paired with a factory limited-slip differential. A pair of finned Cobra valve covers replace the originals, and the engine bay retains several factory details, including the inner fender and body buck tags. Recent servicing by the seller included an oil service and coolant flush.
