Description

1940 Ford 3-Window Street Rod History Ford Motor Company introduced its De Luxe Ford line in 1938 as an upscale alternative to bridge the gap between its base model, the Standard, and luxury Lincoln offerings. The "Deluxe" name was used intermittently before and after this to specify an upscale trim, but the De Luxe Ford line was differentiated as a separate "marque within a marque" with separate styling and pricing through 1940. The standard line once again inherited the De Luxe look for 1940, this time with body-colored vertical bars. The 1940 De Luxe Ford featured a three-part grille with horizontal bars. Why This Car Is Special The 1937-1940 generation of Fords is one of the most popular automobiles for hot rodding. And the 3-window like the 1940 Ford 3-Window Coupe we have at Skyway Classics. It is a great example of the factory style body and aftermarket underpinnings that make this a great street rod. Mechanical Specs Our 1940 Ford has a great body and fenders along with a complete modified Chevrolet 383 cubic inch small block Chevy with twin Edelbrock carbs, ceramic coated headers, modified fuel delivery system, performance spark plug wires, flex fan, upgraded radiator, and plenty of chrome and polished aluminum to go along with everything else. Power is sent thru a Chevrolet Turbo 400 transmission into the H.D. rear end. The custom framework was done by Downs Manufacturing and features a wish-bone front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension, and dual exhaust. The Ford rolls on 5-spoke polished mags on performance tires. Interior The interior is fully customized with plush tan interior with bucket seats, custom dash with aftermarket gauges, tilt steering column and wheel, AM/FM radio, and complete matching trunk with a rear mount battery. Exterior A high flat-topped hood dominated the front look of the 1940 model, as the grille spread out to reach the fenders to differentiate the Deluxe line and the headlights were pushed wider still. Our 1940 is painted red with a two-tone pinstripe and 40' Ford in script on each side of the body.
