I have for sale my 1979 Ford Bronco XLT Ranger with 61,000 miles. This Bronco is one of a pair of Broncos I purchased out of barn in South Carolina about 8 months ago. This particular truck had been sitting in the barn since 1998. We brought the truck back home, got it running, thoroughly cleaned the interior and replaced the few things needed to make it a good driver. This Bronco is highly optioned for the year and one of 33 with these colors and options. I have attached the Marti Report backing this information. The attached Marti report also has a good list of all the options. Truck was originally purchased at Phil Long Academy Ford in Colorado Springs then followed the original owner around a number of Air Force bases until being parked in 1998. Its final registration and Department of Defense base access sticker are still on the windshield.
The exterior of the truck is still the same way I found it with the exception of the tailgate which I had to replace because a trailer hitch had punched an unrepairable hole in it. The body is completely rust free, and in great shape with only a few minor dents. The paint is thin and worn in spots, mostly on the hood and top as would be expected with a mid 70s truck. It looks like the yellow stripe on the sides may have been painted at some point in the trucks life. Top is in good shape with no fiberglass wear or cracks. Paint is worn on the wheels but the still in good condition, as is all the hubcaps. The spare tire is still the original! The Goodyear tire has a 1979 date code on it!
The interior is in good shape overall, I had seat covers on the seats but removed them for the photos so that you can see the tears in the drivers seat. The tear is completely in the vinyl so the seat could be repaired without touching the Indian rug center section which is extremely had to find in good shape. The carpet was removed and steam cleaned but is the original to the truck. Take a look at the photo show how clean the original floors are under the carpet! Dash is in perfect shape with no cracks or tears. All the original trim and small pieces are still there. Only thing not original is an old Radioshack brand radio. Tires were replaced this week with a brand new set of Goodyear Wranglers in OEM size.
The Bronco is powered by a 351M, backed by a C6 automatic transmission and NP203 transfer case. Mechanically the truck is very sound, all the drivetrain is in good condition as would be expected for the mileage. We replaced the fuel tank and fuel lines due to the age of the gas that was sitting in them. We also rebuilt the carburetor and did a general tune up for the same reason but did not need to replace any major pieces. The frame is very solid and clean for its age, it has never been repainted or cleaned up to hide anything from the buyer like what happens on a significant number of these old trucks.
Overall this is a really nice survivor “Barn Find” second generation Bronco. Truck has not been fully restored and is priced accordingly but would make either a great starting platform of an easy restoration, or better yet just a great driver. We have certainly enjoyed driving it over the last few months.Prices on these trucks, especially ones close to stock will only continue to climb.
