I am selling this 1979 Ford Mustang Pace Car. Ford made a total of 10,478 Replica Pace Cars that year but only 2402 had the 302 V8 and 4 Speed, this is one of those cars.
I’m a Mustang fan and I found this project car in 2001. I planned to restore it due to its rarity but there are some things I want to do so I decided to let it go. I have a clean title for it.
Here is what I know about the car. The 302 motor is a more powerful unit from another Mustang. The original low compression motor only had 140 horsepower but this one is 200. It appears to be out of a 1968 Mustang. The car does start and run, not great as it needs a tune up. I drained the fuel tank before I put it in storage. Most of the hard to find unique parts are there like the hood, fiberglass bodywork and genuine Recaro racing seats. All Pace cars, regardless of transmission, had 3.45 rear gears installed at the factory. Most performance Mustangs, of that era, only had 3.08 or 2.73 gears. The top part of the car should be pewter silver but someone painted that part white at some point. The original silver can still be seen in several places. It is a factory A/C car and it was also ordered with the sunroof. Someone tried to help themselves to the A/C compressor while it was being stored and they removed several of the bolts and the stress cracked the mounting bracket that supports that and the power steering pump. The car is sitting on some “roller” tires that are old and are ok to move the car around but they should not be driven on.
This is a local pick up auction as I will not be able to ship this car. The buyer will be responsible for transporting the car after the sale.
If you’re looking for a cool and different Foxbody project, you can’t beat this. I’ve never seen one at a local car show. This car will only continue to go up in value.
