1940 FORD TUDOR DELUXE TRUE BARN FIND!! FLATHEAD V-8 RIDGE RUNNER SHINE HAULER
Description
A true barn find, this is the REAL DEAL!! This 1940 Ford Tudor Deluxe was pulled into the barn in 1969 to return it back to use as a "regular" car (More on that in a little bit) and it has survived there ever since. The owner started working on the car but passed away shortly after he started and it has been sitting in the same spot until I came along and rescued it. I became aware of this car recently and was a little skeptical when I was told the story, but I had to check it out regardless. Well, sure enough, after FINALLY getting through all the brush and thicket with the help of a tractor, we cut the rusty old lock on the door and when I got inside it was EXACTLYas described to me! I found it on 4 flat tires, covered in a ton of dust and surrounded by a bunch of farm items that you would typically find in a barn. It took me several hours to move enough things around just to get some decent pictures of it before I pulled it out. As I said, it was sitting on 4 flat tires, but.... they are polycords with tubes in them and when I inflated them, they took air and have been holding it since!! The wheels moved freely when we pulled it out of the barn and the steering functioned perfectly.
A video of the car being removed from the barn can be found here:https://youtu.be/kIzn9J3L1ig
I posted a few pictures of the car as I found it when I first went to look at it. I do have more and can provide them to the winning bidder. I have since cleaned it up, evicted the mice that were living in it, gave it a good bath and gone over it. The pictures of it cleaned up and shiny were taken when the car was wet and I did this so you can see the MINOR imperfections on the body. There is a small ding on the front of the drivers fender, a couple of small dings on the drivers side of the hood and some paint peeling on the drivers side roof to the rear of the vehicle. This is the only damage to the body that I can find. The body is straight and solid otherwise without any rust. The floor pans are in great shape with the exception of some MINOR rust on the front passenger pan. The grill is in UNBELIEVABLE condition and all the trim is in very nice condition! I do have the rear seat back and bottom as well, but they are rough. They were removed long before this car went into the barn, but again, I'll explain all that towards the end of the description.
The car is equipped with a flathead V-8 and a manual transmission which has a column shifter. Here is the great part, the engine will turn over!! That's right, it isn't rusted or seized up from sitting.I did not try and start it as I don't want to do any damage to it. After all, it has been sitting for 50 years and I don't want to push my luck, but I did put a battery in it and gave it a crank.
Here is the link to a video of the engine being cranked:https://youtu.be/qUcBBLlLCJU
There are a bunch of parts that also come with the car, such as glass, window mechanisms, etc and what appears to be an NOS passenger side running board. I did some looking around and found that you can purchase a COMPLETE set of new glass for this car (Both front windshields, both front vent windows, both front door windows, both rear quarter windows and both back windshields) for around $400 shipped, right here on Ebay!
The car is still an original, unmolested 6 volt car and I am including a deep cycle, 6 volt battery with the vehicle. It also has an interesting, optional heater under the dash. Not sure if this was a factory option heater, dealer installed option or something that was installed by the owner. Either way, it is unique as I have never seen one like it before.
Now for the interesting part! According to legend, this wasn't just any old ordinary Flathead V-8, split window coupe. Supposedly it was used to haul around finished liquid product in the family business back before it was parked in the barn. If you're familiar with the Georgia legends of the "family business", you'll understand why they removed most of the interior from this car. The more room there was, the more product you could move in one trip. I was told that the person who put it in the barn was trying to restore it back to a regular car for nostalgic reasons before he passed away. Are the stories true? Who knows, but seeing as how most everything was removed from the interior and the trunk that could weigh the car down or take up space, it's a very good possibility that the stories are true. No matter what, this is a rare opportunity to own a true barn find survivor, one that has the pictures and videos as proof of where it's been for the last 50 years!
