1957 Ford Thunderbird- 312ci V8- Auto- Both Tops
Description
Submitted for your consideration is this 3-owner* '57 Willow Green Tbird Convertible purchased in San Diego CA and now resides in El Paso, TX with a T-bird collector who owns 2 Tbird Convertibles (the other is a '59 and sold almost immediately to give you a sense of its care). This is a rust-free example the current owner (mid 70's) purchased from the daughter of the 2nd owner 4 years ago. This owner sold his '57 Tbird that he had for years, and had sellers remorse when searched for another of similar quality etc.*Ongoing health issues have precluded the current owner from putting the title in his name, but has continued to drive & enjoy the car until health issueshave precipitated the sale of both T-bird Convertibles. Relative to the title, he's happy to do whatever the buyer prefersfor legality sake, but wanted to be up front about this for the listing. The car is a rust-free solid example with somewhat rare willow green paint. I'm told this is the same color as Willie Nelson'sTbird, but I have no way to know for sure. The car is mechanically strong, reliable, and is a strong 8 or 9 out of a 10 for quality according to the owner.
EXTERIOR: Vehicle has been repainted to a high quality and is in good shape overall with good brilliance. Unlike some '57's, the door fitment on this car is quite good on both sides where it meets the quarters. Panels are straight and damage free. There is no known rust or accident history. No missing parts. The soft top is showing wear and the owner has included a new aftermarket top assembly with the sale that he has not been able to get installed. He, like many, have enjoyed years of top-down driving in these great collectible cars. The accessory hardtop is included, white in color and great condition (there is no "stand"). The headliner material of the hardtop appears to be original and is starting to shrink away from the edges slightly. It will probably need a headliner soon.
INTERIOR: The interior is a white vinyl in good shape considering its vintage. The bench seat is starting to show some wear and will likely have to be recovered at some point. The seat covers are affordable and readily available from several sources. Carpets exhibit some age-related fade, but are intact and not worn thru etc. Odometer mileage is at 124,000 miles and believed to be original. The trunk floor shows mild surface rust starting, but no holes or rust-thru of any kind.
MECHANICALS: As this was purchased from the daughter of the 2nd owner (deceased), the history of the engine & trans. are unknown and seem to be stock original. They engine starts up find, runs/drives and does not smoke or otherwise leak. It's a very strong engine. Transmission shifts thru its detents as it should with no performance issues. Tires are like new.
UNDERCARRIAGE: I don't (yet) have any undercarriage photos, but will try to post those before the end of the auction. The undercarriage is unremarkable.
With vintage colors in vogue returning to the height of their prime, these harder to find colors are increasingly desirable for their classic appearance.
All known details have been stated for the sake of this listing. Personal inspection of any used car is always suggested, but not required. Vehicle is available for inspection/test-drive with advance notice.Recognizing there is a glut of these '57's on eBay and elsewhere, the average price seems to be pretty close to $35k for similar examples. The reserve has been reduced from the original asking price in the spirit of a sale and is competitively priced.I do not have a Buy-it-now price indicated, but please do not hesitate to make reasonable offers which the owner will consider. There is no hurry from his perspective and its more important to reassure a good future by the next care-taker.Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call CA at 615.979.3058.I am of the opinion the first person who sees or otherwise drives this car will likely buy it.
