Description

1973 Mustang Convertible.
Up for auction is a California built and raised 1973 Mustang Convertible. Ford officially made the Mach1 model as a fastback/sportroof only; however, the original owner ordered this car loaded with Mach1 options. I would consider this an unofficial "Mach1" convertible......last year of the first generation factory convertible. This is a very unmolested car as can be seen from the close up engine pictures, factory assembly line markings from 1973 are still clearly visible on the air-cleaner. The car has the Mach1 hood with correct Shelby style hood pin hold down holes, Mach1 dash gauge package, leather wrapped steering, power options and the Q Code engine.
The car had been in long term dry storage when we purchased it. We drained the fuel, cleaned the fuel lines and lubricated the cylinders. The car fired up and ran well, no smoke or misfire, the transmission goes into all the gears and the car brakes well for not being serviced. The car will need to be mechanically refreshed. The interior courtesy lights work as does the seat belt buzzer.....which shows the originality/unmolested condition of the car. Most gauges work, the radio comes on but there is no sound (power antenna does not go up or down). The power top works (material will need to be replaced), the car does have a glass back window with it. Power windows work, passenger window motor skips (needs $20 plastic gear kit, very common). Naturally the a/c will need service/attention however the dash blower does work.
The car looks to have had one re-paint, otherwise inside and out it seems to be totally original. The drivers quarter panel looks like someone has backed into it, and the only real rust issue is a dime sized hole in the bottom side of the trunk; (both items can bee seen in the pictures). The body is amazingly solid, shows why original California cars are so desirable and sought after. It is rare to find such a well optioned, original and solid car; something that does not come along often.
