1990 Ford Taurus SHO - SHOBOCOP - Detroit OCP Police Cruiser
Description
I have loved this movie since I was a kid and have seen many poorly built replicas over the years. Just rattle can painting an old worn out Taurus and throwing some stickers and a lightbar on them is usually what you get.
This, is not one of those... not by a longshot. This is a bumper to bumper recreation of the iconic car built by someone (me!) who is both passionate about movies as well as a car enthusiast and the end result is fantastic! Breaks my heart to sell it, but have other personal projects that need financial backing.
And it always bugged me that the ultimate cop drove a base model Taurus, especially with the SHO was on the drawing board at the time of the films release. Hence, my recreation was was what I felt Robo should of had all along, a 5 speed SHO Taurus cruiser. I started with what was already a nice, clean low miles (90k) Taurus SHO and fully restored it inside and out. The list of mechanical upgrades is huge and it shows as this car runs and drives like a brand new car. Here is a small list of the major items.
New TiresNew Brakes96 Big Brake conversionNew strutsNew oil sending unitNew radiator capRod shifter conversion by SHO SourceNew shifter assembly and bushingsNew wheel bearingNew AC compressorR134A AC conversionNew AC accumulator and linesNew weatherstrippingNew radioCustom built pushbarScreen matched police lightbar with cover
The clutch is flawless and the car literally drives like a new car, can be driven anywhere and I regularly daily drive it! It rides, handles and performs just like it did back in 1990. Although not shown, it does come with an Out of Service cover for the lightbar so it can be driven on the road.
The graphics and plates are all screen matched replicas and the paint is beautiful. We spent over 100 hours hand blocking and straightening the body (it is a rust free southern car) and laid down 7 coats of Hot Rod Flatz paint. No, its not a cheap vinyl wrap! in addition, the paint was ceramic coated to protect it from the Florida sun. There is over $3500 spent just in the paint and body alone!
This is likely one of the nicest Taurus SHO's on the planet and certainly one of, if not the best OCP police replicas ever built. We even had the pleasure of meeting Peter Weller at MegaCon in Orlando where he signed the car!
My loss is your gain on a rare and supremely cool car. Put it in a museum, use it to promote your business or just drive it everywhere for fun, this was truly a labor of love that I hope someone can enjoy as much as I did!
