1987 Ford Mustang LX in Jonquil/Medium Yellow (6H). 6H was a one-year only, Mustang LX-only color and was the predecessor to Mimosa/Tropical Yellow (66). Only 369 convertibles were made in this color. I have not ordered a Marti to break it down to find out how many there were with these options.
This Mustang is NOT a 5.0L. This is a stock 2.3L (non-turbo) engine with about 98500 miles. Yes, the pictures look deceiving because I have added aftermarket period correct-styled 2.3L badges (not the new style) along with correct 2.25" stainless tip exhaust taken off of a '93 Mustang Feature Car with 12K miles. Mufflers are Dynomax mufflers. I had a custom Y-pipe made from the header. Please do not expect a V-8 sound, but it certainly doesn't sound like a fart can. I have received several compliments on the sound of the exhaust when I brought it out to Carlisle Ford Nationals, among other shows on numerous occasions. If you want a car that will deceive people from afar into thinking it's a 5.0L and has the fuel efficiency and insurance cost benefits of a 2.3L, this is a perfect vehicle to consider.
Here is a more condition-based breakdown of the vehicle...
Engine/Trans: Runs and shifts great. Has new Motorcraft Temp Sending Unit, Oil Pressure Sending Unit, PCV valve and starter. Both motor and automatic trans are stock with no added power or performance upgrades.
Brakes & Suspension: New brake pads, calipers, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, ball joints and stabilizer link kits. Obviously, new alignment after that. Drives straight as an arrow and stops well. Rear brake lines have been replaced.I intended on getting around to replacing all the brake lines, but just never had the time to do it.
Paint: Paint is not perfect, but shows well. Please note that the pictures shown with this ad reflect water and car soap used. Car has not been buffed or detailed. Even at the opinion of other show car owners, many imperfections will come out with a good detail job. Once again... haven't got to it yet. There are little dents and dings associated with a 30 year old car throughout.
Interior: Factory Sand Beige interior is, in general, a 8.5+/10 condition. Only significant interior piece that needs to be addressed is the driver seat rips in the vinyl. Carpet cleaned up nice, door panels in nice shape, rear quarter plastics not all cracked around screw holes, etc. Center console armrest has faded and appears to be more gray than tan. Dash lights had burnt bulbs, so I replaced with LED conversion kit. The ever-so-common seat belt sleeves are either severely cracked or missing. Tan interior parts are becoming increasingly hard to find and part of why I purchased this car was because it had a nice, clean and original tan interior. All electronics work as they should now. Anything that didn't work when I got the car, I replaced with working units. Rear quarter window motors were intermittently working, so I took them apart and repaired them to ensure perfect working order all the time. PLEASE NOTE: A/C was recharged last year, blew cold and this year, it blew cool air, not cold. There is most likely a slow leak in the system.
Top: Condition is 8/10. No rips or leaks, but it does have minor small imperfections in the top that have been sealed by an upholster (previous owner had it done). It's a 10-footer convertible top (to make it easier to put into perspective). Black top is not original. By the numbers, this car is supposed to have a tan top with a Champagne pinstripe. Previous owner put on black top and a black decal pinstripe. Although I'm a stock kind of guy, I'm in no rush to replace the top because I like the contrast it has with the factory black moldings.
Common Rust/Rot Areas: Both strut towers are 8-8.5/10 (blistering at seams). Left door will eventually need rust repair or replacement (6.5-7/10). Right door is better, but would need repair at some point in the future (7.5-8/10). Floors are solid with the exception of a very small area near driver's feet. Once media blasted out, there would probably be a hole the size of a quarter. Rear trunk lid (8/10) shows rust, but an easy repair.
Other areas that need to be addressed: Two tires seem to lose about 10lbs of pressure after 90-120 days. Not sure if it is the seal around the tire or a valve stem.Haven't got around to diagnosing it yet.
