Description

Before we begin, I want you to know that like you, I'm a classic car & truck fanatic and I also consider myself an automotive preservationist.Ispecialize in hunting for high quality survivor classic cars & trucks in need of rescuing. I revive them, and connect the vehicles (& their stories) with new caretakers.I am dedicated to honoring the history of classic cars, and ensuring the stories of these rolling pieces of history are told.

I've been a seller on eBayer since 1998 and take tremendous pride in only receiving positive feedback over the last 21+ years.I bring 27 years of knowledge, connections, and invested experience, but I never stop learning.I've owned scores of vehicles over the years and have made many sight unseendeals (many here on eBay) to buy or sell cars across the country. Please take a moment to read through the complimentary feedback left by buyers over the years.

In addition, I strongly believe in the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words." The Internet has allowed us in our hobby to search for cars nationwide and it's my hope to make you as comfortable as possible with this purchase. In addition to the 110+ photos, I've included several high definition videos of this fastback to offer an accurate description of its condition. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me. My name is Jeff and I can be reached at 414-940-8848 before 9:00 p.m. central time.

"The Story"
We recently had the pleasure of unearthing from a local barn, one of the most sought after cars of all time: a 1968 Mustang Fastback. The 1968's storied history and reputation has been heavily documented on the street, strip, and even Hollywood. It's considered to be one of the most recognizable cars in history. The attention this barn find project has been getting from neighbors has been absolutely incredible. EVERYONE has their story about a '68 Mustang fastback...
This is an incredibly nicely optioned car, and rare, with just 201 Acapulco Blue cars with Blue Deluxe Interior made. This vehicle has no title issues and a neat history. The car was sold new in Arlington, WI, just north of Madison. According to the previous owner, the car has remained in the area since at least the 1980s. The previous owner purchased the car from a friend in 2003 and stored it in his barn until he was ready to restore it. Unfortunately, that restoration never came to fruition and the fastback remained tucked away in the barn until my recent purchase.
This fastback project is nicely optioned with a 289 V8, auto trans, Acapulco Blue paint, blue deluxe interior, fold down rear seat, and the fairly rare Convenience Control Panel dash light option. Please see the photo of the Marti Report for more information. The odometer shows 55k miles, which I believe to be correct based on the interior condition, but I have no documentation to prove mileage.
This is a Wisconsin car since day 1 and its exposure to salty roads and humid air shows. This fastback is complete, but in need of a TOTAL restoration. The car shows evidence of a prior rear end collision and the body work is showing. The driver's door, decklid, and possibly other panels have been replaced. I know the driver's door isn't original because the door tag doesn't match the car. The car is rusty, but it's all there. With Bullitt hitting the auction block next year, this would make one hell of a tribute car. Or, toss in that 390 or 428. Or, make it a Shelby tribute. Or, use the sea of handling parts out there and set the car up for road racing. Or, leave it stock! The possibilities on this one are endless...
The original deluxe interior looks respectable and is nearly 100% complete. Other than the front seats needing recovering, carpet, and headliner, I think everything else could be restored or reused, depending on the level of restoration desired.I connected a battery and the interior lights work, the wipers work, the blower motor works, the headlights work, the seatbelt lamp on the Convenience Control Panel works, and one taillight works.
The transmission goes into all gears smoothly and the car rolls easily. There are no brakes, no horn, no radio, and no directionals. I have not investigated or even checked fuses yet. If I am able to get anything working, I will revise the listing.
The car was trailered to my home. I believe the 289 is a '66 Mustang C block, according to the engine pad. Many Mustang guys like the '65-'66 289's because of their higher compression vs the '67-'68 cars. My understanding is these C blocks respond well to modifications and builds.
After the car was trailered to my home, I did NOT immediately try to turn the engine over. I removed all the spark plugs and poured several ounces of Marvel Mystery oil down each cylinder with a funnel and pvc tubing. I let that sit for two days. at that time, I put a 1/2" wrench on the crank pully and just lightly rocked to see if the engine was free or not. It was free. I poured a little more Marvel down each cylinder and let it sit again overnight. The next day, with plugs removed, I turned the engine over by hand and it was completely free. No weird noises or problems.
Before trying to start, I cranked the engine for some time to build up some oil pressure. Then, I connected the fuel line to an auxiliary fuel source for testing. The engine turns over well, but I don't have spark. I will continue to look into this and attempt to get the engine to run.
