Description

If you're in search of an early Mustang convertible, and we know there are a lot of choices out there, you might want to consider this very nicely restored Twilight Turquoise 1965 Mustang convertible. It's got all the features you want (power top, power steering, power brakes, and a 289) plus a color combination that's correct and a little unusual. And most importantly, it was restored to a high level and is absolutely dialed-in. Quite honestly, there's nobody... out there who doesn't like the early Mustangs. Even Camaro guys have to admit that they're neat little cars and whenever you're driving one, well, life seems a little brighter. That's why we like this one so much, because the Twilight Turquoise on white color combination this beauty sports just seems to put a smile on the face of everyone that walks past it. It embodies the spirit of the Mustang, playful and fun, without taking itself too seriously, but still looks serious enough to belong among the vintage units seen at the better car shows across the country. Fortunately, the bodywork is great underneath and it appears to have lived its entire life as a weekend cruiser away from the elements, so it's pretty tidy underneath as well. Mustang convertibles can sometimes be tricky to restore with their uni-body structures, but this one fits together quite nicely and the finish has a great shine and deep luster that anyone would be proud to show off. Is it perfect? No, of course not, nothing is. But it does have a wonderful look that's a big part of its appeal, and you're simply not going to find much nicer in this price range. The white Pony interior contrasts brilliantly with the blue-green bodywork and remains as inviting as ever. Given how nice the door panels, seat covers, and carpets are, it's easy to see this droptop has rarely been driven since it was restored, showing off bright upholstery plush dark carpets that are protected with correct Mustang floor mats. The early-style dashboard covers the basics with a wide speedometer and ancillary gauges in round pods at either end, and the shifter for the C4 3-speed automatic transmission sits proudly on the transmission tunnel, inside the wonderfully designed center console that was one of Ford's finest interior achievements. The beautiful dash is free of any cracks or blemishes and was finished to match the shade of the exterior paint, and a retro-style AM/FM/Cassette radio in the center of the dash completes the correct look. Other neat features include a fully restored three-spoke steering wheel and a white power convertible top that's in excellent condition and offers a matching boot for when it's stowed. The spacious trunk is correctly outfitted with a reproduction mat and spare tire with cover, and details like that show you that nothing was overlooked during this thorough restoration. There's no way to determine if an early Mustang like this is "matching-numbers" in the technical sense, but the freshly rebuilt A-code 289 currently living under the hood looks quite correct and brightly detailed. Gold valve covers and a matching gold snorkeled air cleaner replete with proper "289" badges stand out against the black engine block and satin inner fenders and firewall, giving it a hyper-clean and low-key look that's entirely appropriate for the era. It starts easily and feels smooth and torquey, so this Mustang is a great travelling partner no matter where you're going. Power steering and power front disc brakes are rather important options, even on a lightweight Mustang, and the C4 automatic transmission teams up with super steep 3.00 gears to make it an awesome highway cruiser. A Flowmaster dual exhaust system has a nice V8 burble to it and everything underneath looks to have been fully addressed during the restoration, including the new shocks and neatly painted floor pans, so no worries about hitting the road. Correct Mustang Mags with 205/70/14 BFGoodrich white-letter radials are the perfect rolling stock on this bright little ragtop. This car gets a lot of things right, and we can guarantee that if you like the color, you're going to love the rest of the car. Call today!
