Description

1934 Ford Five Window Coupe

In the early days of hot rodding, the 1934 Ford quickly became the platform of choice for many speed record attempts. Inexpensive and plentiful, it also possessed a frame with high torsional rigidity that could withstand the ever-increasing output of the flathead, and overhead valve V-8 engines that were developed in the early 1950's

This 1934 Five window coupe, chassis number 1869152, personifies California style hot rodding in the 1950's. Coupling an original steel body, with a Flathead V8 engine, a tri-power carb configuration, and 3 speed manual transmission, the owner can confidently ease up to a stoplight, give a nod to the potential victim in the lane next to him, and confidently watch him disappear in his rear-view mirror after the light turns green.

Exterior
An absolutely perfect finished steel body, covered in a background field of So-Cal Twilight Blue and orange to yellow faded flame from the hood, past suicide doors, to rear the panel. Faded flames are also emblazoned on the front fenders and burn back to the running boards. Orange pinstripe flourishes surround key chrome components and create highlights in the deep blue adornments to highlight and emulate shape. Wide orange steel wheels are topped with chrome hubcaps, and trim rings. A roll down rear window is fully operational and will allow you to communicate with your rumble seat passengers and keep them informed of your current speed. Teardrop stoplights cascade near the bottom of the curvaceous rear fenders.

Interior
A handsome blue tweed cloth in a surrounding field of deep blue vinyl cover the bench seat inside, as well as the pop-up rumble seat in back, the actuation for which is in the passenger side rear interior wall.
A banjo style steering wheel allows the driver to monitor restored original gauges mounted in dark blue metallic on the dash. Grey carpeting compliments the passenger compartment and is in excellent condition. Door panels are tweed within dark blue vinyl, and a grey carpet base. A floor shifter with a retro Ford V8 logo knob reaches comfortably up to driver height. All chrome handles knobs and accents are in mint condition.

Drivetrain
A 221ci Flathead V8 engine topped with Edelbrock cylinder heads and 3 two-barrel Stromberg carburetors power the car. The exhaust is evacuated quickly from tubular headers hooked to a full length stainless steel exhaust system. A 3-speed manual transmission, links to an original 1934 Banjo rear axle to power the rear wheels. A Super Bell 4" dropped I-beam front axle provides a smooth and stable ride, as well as efficient turning. Brakes are four-wheel drums and bring the car quickly to a stop.

This 1934 steel body 5 window custom coupe is a show winning quality build that maintains the original 1950's California hot rodding themes, adds a touch of tasteful luxury, and is peppered with nostalgic motif, and true to period lines. All surfaces outside and in, on top and below, have been meticulously attended to. An excellent example of Southern California racers whose quest for speed accelerated an industry with their developments, and inspired generations.
