1939 Ford Deluxe Fordor Convertible
With its wind-swept design and classic good looks, Ford's DeLuxe series has always been a rare and highly desirable line of cars. Not surprisingly, gearheads, customizers and 70 years' worth of dedicated fans have elevated it to one of hot rodding's greatest cultural icons.
This awesome Ford Sedan remains a mostly original but restored car and has been blessed with several upgrades such as changing to a 12 volt system with a battery disconnect switch, after market air conditioning, an electric fuel pump and a newly installed convertible top.
Exterior
A light vanilla cream coats the outside and is in almost good condition. Detractions on this are seen in the door jambs and at the transitions between the fenders and the body. Otherwise it presents clean and glossy. Exterior brightwork is correct, and all chrome shows bright with some patina, but is consigner stated original. Teardrop headlights frame a heart shaped grille, with vertical stainless steel slats. A nice set of running boards connects the front and rear fenders which are extremely curvaceous. A split windshield has good glass and roll up windows are functioning. Moon hubcaps sport an iconic Ford 8 in the V logo.
Interior
A sea of faux leather vinyl covers the seating surfaces, passenger midpoint divider, and rear seat. Door panels upholstered door handles, and other interior dividers are covered with this faux leather as well. The dash is original and in good condition with its various Bakelite knobs and pulls, smoky yellow round speedo and combo fuel, oil, amp and temp cluster. Fronting this cluster is a nicely patina banjo steering wheel. Aftermarket air conditioning has been added, and venting can be seen hovering over the good condition dark brown carpeting. Reaching for the ceiling in the center is the long floor shifter.
Drivetrain
A 1938 221ci Iron Head, 24 stud, flathead V8, which consigner states runs well, and does not smoke. This mill is bolted to a series 78 top loader transmission, which has 3 speeds. As noted, an electric fuel pump, and 12 Volt system have been added to the list of upgrades. The differential is solid and makes no noise.
In closing, we have a mostly original looking 1939 Ford Deluxe "Fordor" or 5-window convertible survivor of which not an inordinate amount were produced. This all steel car has undergone few body repairs and presents nicely. A definite driver, that can be enjoyed by you and a group of your friends as there is plenty of interior room.
