1968 Ford Mustang Fastback
The Mustang was originally available as either a hardtop or convertible, but during the car's early design phases a fastback model was strongly considered. In 1965, a newly introduced Fastback body version with its swept-back rear glass and distinctive ventilation louvers became available.
Imagine having the coolest new car on the block in 1968, the Ford Mustang. Then ramp that up and imagine the coolest version of said wildly popular Mustang, that being the Fastback version. Couple that with a 302ci V8 and strap a 4-barrel carburetor on and now you are living large. A great example of this ultimate cool, we give you this Fastback to grace your driveway, and also give you the ability to turn the key and drive away, in this fully restored version of one of the most popular cars ever built.
Exterior
From the galloping pony on the front honeycombed grille, to the fog lights which sit inside the grille and are flanked by a single headlight and all the way back to the sloping rear roof line with the iconic louvers this beautiful pony car possesses some small faults (chipping, cracking and blemishes particularly on hood). It's all about awe with the good condition Sunlit Gold respray, restored chrome and britework, and classic original polished bullet style wheel covers. And for giggles, let's throw in a tasteful black racing stripe in matte black running from the dual intakes near the front of the hood racing back to the windshield. Side coves from the front quarters through the doors have a black dual stripe denoting its border. Bringing up the rear is a GT emblazoned gas filler cap, and exhaust protrudes through coves at the bottom of the rear skirt. It just does not get any better than this.
Interior
Hold that last thought...because throw open the doors and reveal a pristine black vinyl interior seating setup of a 2+2. This is grounded by fade free carpet, and a Hurst shifter between the standard buckets up front. A small center console that ends at the front of the buckets can be seen which is not original to the car but looks great and adds functionality with storage and to lean your arm on. Looking at the dash, we see a wonderful amalgamation of Sunlit Gold metal, and black vinyl with chrome bezeled circular instruments flanking a speedometer. Sunlit Gold on the upper door panels, and sides of the rear 2+2. A tight black headliner which has recently been installed is above all this excitement.
Drivetrain
A pop of the hood and you'll have to squint, because there is so much bling you will barely be able to stand it! A proper 302 V8 topped by a a single 4-barrel carburetor and air cleaner in chrome. Attached at the back is a top loader 4-speed manual transmission. Correct Ford blue covers the block and valve covers.
Undercarriage
Doesn't get any better than this, rust free, good floorpans, unibody seams, and structurally sound framing. Independent coil spring in front and leaf spring suspension on the rear, and drum brakes all around are seen.
Drive-Ability
Starts quickly and sounds great. The Hurst shifter is a nice addition. This car drives fantastically, the new black seats are very comfortable. Car corners great and has good acceleration.
Flash back to 1968, suburbia in the driveway, hottest car to come along in years, and it's in your neighbor's driveway. Fast forward we are in the new millennium, same car, now your driveway, and the car looks and performs better than it did when it left the showroom. Come on down .....Fast....back!
