1969 Ford Mustang Coupe
Ads appearing in Magazines in 1969 stated "Somebody finally built a better Mustang...We did" meaning for the past 4 years the Mustang has been the bestselling car out there, and finally Ford outdid themselves with the newly designed Mustang for 1969. Clever!
For consignment a first year of the second generation of the Mustang all wrapped up in Candy Apple Red, and fully restored. Neat-o two tone aftermarket seats, and an added center console, and an original snappy 351ci Windsor V8. Mustang was now coming into its own with more power and now even greater looks.
Exterior
Bathed in a very good paint job, miles deep with plenty of shine and no inclusions we are seeing red. Save for the passenger door and rocker which has a few finishing scratches near the bottom, we are all good. Chrome bumpers horizontal ribbed grille complete with new for this year a more rakish front and has 4 headlights 2 of which reside in the grill along with the Mustang badging. This year losing the galloping stallion in the middle and presenting it smaller over a vertical striped bar. Some chrome trim around the wheel wells, and a black front and rear spoilers, and hood scoop add to the power mystique of this car and it's looking aggressive. Brite work and window surrounds are in good condition and shiny. 15x7 chromed Magnum 500 wheels are adding bling to all 4 corners of this beautiful car. This car retains its original quarter panels, doors, fenders and hood. Giddyup!
Interior
Procar now provides the two tone seats which are high back buckets up front and rear bench. Red tuck and roll vented vinyl inserts bordered by smooth black wrap around stitched bolsters along with nice padding in the seats. On the rear seat in the middle is the red sewn on updated version of the pony option. The dash is rakish and has the deeply imbedded round instruments in front of a now wood steering wheel which has an aftermarket tachometer attached to the left side of the column. The center of the dash now heads toward the floor and meets the hump and includes an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player, and heating & airflow controls and 2 more aftermarket gauges. The shapely iconic Mustang T style shift lever resides well within reach of the driver and presents in chrome, and a very nice aftermarket center console is flanked by the seats. Black carpet floods the floors, and a black near perfect headliner is above. Noted are beautiful colorful embroidered floor mats with the new badge and led interior lighting has been added.
Drivetrain
As for specs, we see an original cosmetically restored and rebuilt 351ci Windsor V8 engine topped by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and backed by a C6 3-speed automatic transmission, also rebuilt (within the last 5K miles). Some bling in the form of a chromed Edelbrock air cleaner cover, and ribbed polished valve covers along with supple shiny hoses and a new aluminum radiator, as well as some braided hoses for fuel delivery, and we are in an overall clean bay which makes a nice presentation when opening the hood.
Undercarriage
No surface rust is seen on the frame, floorpans, and rockers, which present in a nice patina black. A Ford 9-inch 3.00 conventional axle is noted. The front suspension is independent coil spring and the rear is leaf springs and has yellow traction bars put on. For stopping power its power discs upfront and power drums on the rear. Last a Flowmaster exhaust makes its way gracefully bending from front to rear.
Drive-Ability
She fires right up, sounds great, and runs like a charm. Good handling, and traction on the rear wheels is solid with the bars added. The A/C turns on but will need a recharge, and the radio and clock do not work.
The beneficiary of a recent (under 5K miles) rebuild of the engine and tranny, new interior, and beautiful paint create a solid example which runs smoothly, shifts effortlessly automatically, and is in overall very nice condition. I'm seeing red after driving this one.
