Description
1976 Ford Bronco Explorer
This wonderfully un-molested Bronco came to us from Golden, Colorado and has that great "survivor" look to it with the original paint. She was bought and owned by the same family until she came to us at Horsepower Customs in 2019. We've left her pretty much the same as when we got her except a good engine "refresh", some new tires and new carpet. The color is "Burnt Orange" but we affectionately call her Pumpkin because we got her around Halloween time!
The paint on this Bronco is all original. Definitely not perfect but she has the patina that says she was used but taken care of. There is virtually no spots on her that are rusted through except on that driver-side rocker panel. We will fix that rocker panel before shipping it to the new owner...just let us know what your plans with her are and we'll fix it accordingly (match patina, different color, etc...). She has some bumps, bruises and scratches which add to her charm and since she runs so well we thought it would be best to just run her as she is...no worries about pulling into a tight space and someones door hitting and hurting her! All the glass is crystal clear and the original wheels and hubcaps wrapped with brand-new ($1,200 value) Yokohama All-Terrain tires have this Bronco looking great cruising the neighborhood, beach, cabin road, etc...
Mechanically she runs great. We refreshed the engine and it along with the three-speed manual transmission runs like a champ. Front disc brakes give her plenty of stopping power and the power steering makes driving easy and fun. What is even more exciting about this Bronco is it has all of the smog equipment on it and will pass California inspection which is the most stringent in the country.
If you are interested in converting this Bronco to an automatic transmission we have those parts available (transmission and column) and can do that for you...just let us know and we can give you a price to do that kind of work. The vehicle is located at the Horsepower Customs main facility 90 miles south of San Diego outside of Ensenada and we can do any other work you'd like to do as well.
In the interior of the truck we left it pretty well stock. We threw some white vinyl seat covers on the front seats and installed new brown carpet in the cab of the vehicle. It looks great. The dash is in pretty solid condition with all the knobs intact and the original radio still installed. The previous owners installed some extra speakers in the back of the truck. The interior isn't perfect but just like the exterior it has that great original condition vibe so we just decided to leave it pretty much stock. What's great about that is you can leave it as is and it would be perfectly fine or you can take it to whatever level you'd like and make it your own. The back seat is not currently installed in the vehicle but it does come with it.
We do have new-old-stock (NOS) material for this particular year from SMS Fabrics and can re-upholster the seats if you'd like to match the original build sheet. We have a full-time upholstery shop at Horsepower Customs and can do anything you can think of.
These EXPLORER models were only made for three model years and are pretty rare to find in this great of condition and un-molested. Each model year they were only available in two or three colors and this "Burnt Orange" is pretty desirable. Usually you find them re-done and with the stripe kit deleted so that makes this one rare bird. We sold a Bronco with this exact same model and year in early 2019 to a client who had us re-paint it to the original color and it recently traded hands on Bring-A-Trailer for $59,000+. When the paint is new on these vehicles they are absolutely beautiful (although we still like them when they're original like this).
This car is all original and fun to drive! Can't wait to see her back out on the roads in your town. Have fun with it!
