Description

The term, "rare" seems to be thrown around a lot when someone is trying to sell something. Well, I AM selling this car, and it IS rare. It's a real GT in a one year only color (Paint Code 5) with a unique and rare two tone aqua /white Pony Interior (Code 67). Late '65 models weren'tpainted this color, it was an early model color, only. I have heard anywhere between 1% and 3% of ALL Mustangs produced in 1965 were painted Twilight Turquoise. As someone said on Vintage Mustang Forum...."In over 30 years of "Mustanging", I can only recall seeing three original Twilight Turquoise cars - a convertible, a rusted out fastback, and a K-Code GT." I've only seen one car (basket case fastback, not a GT) on e-Bay that was this color.
Some numbers: In '65, there were 559,451 Mustangs produced. Of this number, there were 5,776 fastbacks with the Pony Interior. You could get a GT in a convertible, fastback, or coupe. In 65-66, the biggest sellers by far were the coupes. Between 75% and 80% of the GT's produced in 1965 were coupes. The other 20 - 25%, or approximately2,500 - 3,000, were either convertibles or fastbacks. Ok, now onto the stuff you really care about.
I bought this GT from a guy near Aiken, South Carolina, about 20 miles from me. Great guy. I bought two Mustangs from him. Either he or his uncle have owned this car for over 20 years. I am selling this car to invest money in my Road Runner and pay off my daughter's student loan.
PAINT AND BODY - There is no rust on the car. The paint is an 8, in my opinion. Some may call it a 7, others, a 9. For you concourse, MCA folks, it's closer to a strong 7. For the average car guy/gal, it's just a very nice looking paint job. It was done years ago, but still more than presentable for any show. No real swirl marks or scratches. The car is arrow straight with nice gaps. The underside is clean with no rust anywhere. All glass is very nice. Trunk area is very nice.
DRIVE TRAIN AND BRAKES - This is a factory 289, 4 barrel, A-Code GT. Although the motor is original, the aluminum intake manifold and Shelby Tri-Y Headers are not. There is a nice healthy cam in the motor, that sounds great. This is a 4-speed GT. It shifts very well. The power is sent to the stock 8" rear end with 3.00:1 gear. There are new brakes all the way around, including the lines. Manual disk brakes up front, which was standard on all GT's. Car starts, idles, runs, and drives very well. Stops very well, with no pulling to one side. No leaks, rattles, weird smells, etc.
INTERIOR - The interior is nearly flawless. No rips, tears or stains anywhere. All gauges work. All interior lights (and exterior lights) work. Turn signals work. The rally pack gauges were replaced years ago, so these are not original, but look like the originals. Door panels are nice. Headliner and sun visors are as they should be. The AM/FM Cassette is aftermarket and works fine. Front seat belts were added. I have the original white "running horse" rubber floor mats that go with the car.
TO SUM IT UP - This is a very, very nice driver that's been totally restored. Drive it anywhere for any distance. This car has all of the obvious (and not so obvious) stuff that all GT's came with in 1965-66. Here's what all GT's came with: fog lamps, side tape stripe, GT badging, dual trumpet exhaust, deleted side chrome, five dial instrumentpanel, specialhandling package, A or K Code engine, front discbrakes, running horse gas cap in 65, GT cap in 66, individual M-U-S-T-A-N-G lettering on bottom of fenders, correct "punched" hole (not drilled) for fog lamp wiring harness on radiator support, 13/16 inch front sway bar, larger diameter master cylinder, quick ratio steering box, GT dual exhaust hanger reinforcementplates under back seat, correctly wired fog lamp switch with correct fog lamp switch location, and unique trunk plug hole on right side. '65 GT's went into production on February 20, 1965, and made their debut on the showroom floor on April 17th. This car was built on May 17th. Tires are newer BFG's, wrapped around styled steel GT wheels. Wheels are immaculate.
LASTLY - When was the last time you saw a true 1965 Mustang GT (coupe, fastback or convertible) in this color combination? Maybe never? How about a 4 speed, GT Fastback, with rally pack, aqua/white pony interior with twilight turquoise paint from the factory? More than likely, never? Please, serious calls and bidders only. If you have less than 10 feedback, and you don't call me first, I'll cancel your bid. No time for scammers and tire kickers. For serious folks, I can take any specific pictures or send you a video. I have the right to end the auction at any time for any reason. Clear title. I will need a $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of the action's end. Pay-pal is preferred. The balance will be due within seven days, or at/before pickup of the car. The reserve is less than the Buy it Now, but please don't ask what the reserve is. Transportation/shipping is the buyer's responsibility, but I will help on my end to assist anyway I can. Car must be paid in full before it leaves my garage. Please call Andy with any questions at (706) 836-44TEN. Thanks for looking.
