1928 Model A Ford with a Riley 4 port OHV conversion, Ryan overdrive, hydraulic brakes, tubular shock absorbers. Built by world renowned Vern Tardel, Santa Rosa, California. All steel original body is straight with a deep gloss mirror like paint job. Tardel started with a stock Tudor, rust free, in great condition. He took the body off the frame and stripped it to bare metal and painted it in gloss enamel. The Model A four cylinder high-performance engine was built by H & H with insert bearings, oil pressure pump, oil filter, counterbalanced, aluminum Riley four-port OHV, headers, Pertronix electronic automatic advance distributor. The recently installed carburetors are brand-new high-quality Stromberg 97s. The cooling system is pressurized. The transmission uses Mitchell synchronous gears. There is a Ryan overdrive. This means no double clutching to shift gears and easy cruising at freeway speeds. Wire wheels are 16 inch 1935 Ford with big and little Firestone tires. A dropped front axle gives it just the right stance. The door handles are 1934 Ford, a subtle touch. There is both a small modern horn under the car and an original Spartan “ahooga” horn mounted upfront. The electric system is 12 V. The windshield wiper is electric. Turn signals function with a taillight added to the right rear and amber bulbs inside the headlamps. There are seatbelts for the front seats. Tardel did one of his famous steering conversions by installing a F-150 Ford pickup truck steering box which functions as smoothly as if it were power steering. The interior is proper blue-gray hairline mohair upholstery. There is a working roller shade at the rear window. The photos show me with Max at H&H and Vern at Vern Tardel's in 2008. Tardel finished the car in May 2008. I picked it up at his shop in Santa Rosa and had a leisurely drive down the coast, visiting friends along the way to Laguna. Since then, it has been sitting in my barn in Hawaii. While it is in great shape and a real beauty, it is showing some aging. The chrome bumpers have some rust. The interior has moth damage mostly at the lower section of the driver’s seat where it is covered with duct tape. There are small areas of moth damage here and there. I priced a complete interior replacement kit from LeBaron Bonney: $2,820. The windshield frame is rusting. This can readily be removed, sanded down and repainted. The body work is straight and beautiful, the paint excellent with no scratches or dings. The hood sides have some areas slightly less than perfectly straight. The Spartan horn is not wired up. It was professionally restored about 10 years ago and never used. It might need a little oil. The title is clean and ready to transfer. I can help arrange shipping to anywhere. The shipping cost from Hawaii to Long Beach or Oakland California, or Seattle Washington is $1,070.
