This 1971 Ford Mustang convertible represents a cool transition as the original pony car stretched its legs into muscle machine territory, and this car has eyes!!1971 was a great year for the Mustang if you're a fan of American flair. This was the first appearance of a major restyle, and it followed Detroit's maxim of lower, wider, and longer. These cars have nice styling touches like the line that follows the front fender all the way into the door, and a recessed back panel that gave it a sporty overhang in the rear. The Mustang was given these elongated lines to create a meaner appearance, and aggressive is exactly how this drop top was built to look. The shine of the fresh red paint provides the perfect backdrop to all the dark accents. This includes the Mach 1 triple stripe, soft top, front spoiler, and NACA hood with blacked-out paint over the dual ram air openings. The roll bar was added to offer more safety and body stability. But in reality, it also gives this convertible an added sporting touch by visually connecting it to the Shelby Mustang convertibles from the previous model years. Finishing off this speedy image are the optional Magnum 500 chrome wheels. The interior is the exact right color for this convertible. The black vinyl bucket seats match the accents on the exterior, which always looks cool with the top down. This Mustang was built with plenty of nice original options such as power steering, clock, tilt wheel, wood accents, and center console. This all looks great, but it feels even better from behind the wheel thanks to a three-spoke wood-rimmed unit that has exceptional grip. Another great option is the full factory gauge package. So not only does this Mustang come with a tachometer, but also there is a nice tri-dial display for the oil, water, and voltage mounted in the middle of the dash. A nice upgrade is an AM/FM stereo that is iPod compatible so you can play your favorite tunes with the top down. In fact, you can experience open motoring a bit further into the colder seasons thanks to the factory heater/defrost. If you do have to put the top up, it is as easy as a flip of a switch of the power folding roof - there's even a glass rear window for clearer visibility.Under the hood is a 302 cubic-inch V8 motor mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. These are versatile engines with plenty of performance parts available. In fact, this one has already been upgraded with goodies such as an Edelbrock carburetor, Powermaster alternator, and performance headers. All of this exits through a dual exhaust with aggressive sounding Flowmaster mufflers. It makes the kind of noise that will attract crowds at the car shows, and have them want a look at the motor. So just for that extra show-off potential, this one has a very clean matte black engine bay that helps make Ford's big blue motor a real standout. For the days when you just want to go put this pony through the paces, this Mustang also comes with practical and desirable features such as power brakes with the optional discs up front. Mustang convertibles can be attractive purely on emotion. This one is even better because it also includes sensible packaging at a value price... but you can still tell everyone you got it because it's a cool red Mustang drop top.
