Description

This gorgeous 1968 Mustang coupe is proof that you don't need to spend a big pile of money to get a great-looking and driving early pony car. With a powerful 289 and an awesome color scheme, this is a fun and fast summertime cruiser that will serve you well for years to come.Paint and bodywork have been freshened recently, and the handsome charcoal gray paint this car currently wears compliments the coupe body style extremely well. Done in two-stage urethane, it does nothing to diminish those timeless Mustang curves, and makes this one look a lot more grown up than some of its siblings, even with the black stripes running down the center of the car. The paint is much better than the original enamel, and there were no colors in the 1968 catalog that glowed like this one does in the sunlight. You can easily spot a '68 Mustang with its side marker lights, and few enthusiasts will argue that 1968 wasn't a high point for Ford stylists. Chrome is bright, the stainless has been polished, and all the Mustang badges have been properly placed following the repaint. It also wears a black vinyl roof that adds to the upscale look and hides no nasty surprises underneath.Inside, a correct black vinyl bucket seat interior shows you why the Mustang was a perennial best-seller. Comfortable, stylish, and nicely finished, it's the perfect complement to the gorgeous exterior. Most certainly a combination of nice original pieces and quality replacements, it gives you a good idea of how well preserved this car was, and how carefully the restorer worked to blend the two seamlessly. The seat covers might be original and show a little bit of age but nothing that needs immediate attention, and the no-console look is one that appeals to our performance-oriented desires. The original AM radio has been replaced by a more recent AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo head unit that fits into the original slot, so no cutting and it can be returned to original condition easily. The back seat looks almost like new and the trunk is trimmed with what appears to be the original plaid mat.The original C-code 289 wore a 2-barrel carburetor, but this one has been upgraded with a 4-barrel Edelbrock and matching intake, so it's quite a bit more potent. Looking every bit like the original powerplant, it wears Ford Blue paint, " Ford" valve, and a chrome air cleaner supplies the fresh air. It's quite nicely detailed, suggesting that someone invested a lot of time in getting the engine bay cleaned up, and upgrades include an aluminum radiator, power steering, and power disc brakes to make it easy to handle. A set of long-tube headers feed a true dual exhaust system that delivers a muscular sound without being too loud, both at full throttle and more importantly, at cruising speeds. One look at the chassis and you'll know that this has always been a clean, dry car. A 3-speed automatic drives a rugged 9-inch rear with easy-cruising 2.79 gears, and it all hangs on original suspension pieces with recent shocks. Gorgeous 17-inch Boss Motorsports wheels emulate vintage Torque Thrusts and wear contemporary 245/45/17 performance radials. With great performance, a fantastic engine note, and gorgeous, instantly-recognizable good looks, this '68 coupe puts you behind the wheel of a legend for not a lot of cash.
