Description

It's time to be the most interesting racer on the track. This 1920 Ford Speedster has the right mix of authentic vintage racecar and enough modern safety that you can confidently take this one to any classic track event from dirt to asphalt.Take a moment to imagine you're coming off the final hairpin at your favorite track. You wearing leather racing goggles, the wind whips through your helmet, and everyone in the pits and the grandstand can see the 10,000-watt smile on your face. That's because this is racing in its purest form. It's a Model T stripped down to its bare essentials, and then given a super-slick torpedo-style body. So while this one is built purely for function, there is still beauty in the classic lines. The same goes for the paint, which wears a few marks earned from heated competition. In fact, this Model T Speedster earned a fierce reputation racing in the 1920s around the state fair tracks in the Deerfield, Massachusetts area. Today, it even still carries the stickers from vintage SCCA events for both the dirt and tarmac races. It's also a good time to look at all the safety features built into this Speedster. We've come a long way in the last century, and so this one has been updated with a steel exoskeleton safety cage that now reinforces the side passenger compartment, adds a roll hoop, and protects the battery and fuel cell rear compartment. You also get a Formula race seat with RaceQuip four-point harness. There are other pieces you'll be quite happy to see such as fire extinguisher, turn signals, and provisions for headlights (the last two even help make this road-legal, too!) Like a modern racecar, you have the option for switching on your fuel pump, fan, and ignition. But don't be fooled into thinking this is anything but a vintage racer. One push of the start button, and you'll hear that single exhaust boom out a classic tone that sounds like old time jazz to the oldtimer racers. The engine bay follows the rest of the car's theme, and so it's modern race-ready without losing that classic feel. It starts with a flathead four-cylinder Model T motor, and then was given reliable race upgrades such as the electric fuel pump, electric fan, aluminum zinc head with high compression, Texas T distributor, large single-barrel carburetor with velocity stack, and ceramic coated Indy headers. This motor has been given a full overhaul in 2013 by a Model T specialist that included new rods, pistons, and crank. This lighter, faster Model T still runs with a planetary gear and now has a Ruckstell rear end. The final touch is the body-matching 21-inch Jaxson wheels. These solid rollers have a period correct look, but they still accept a better racing tire with a more aggressive tread. This Ford Speedster is ready to connect you with a bygone era the moment you hit the racetrack. This one even comes with its SCCA logbook so you can help write its full legacy. This is truly what vintage racing is all about. Call today!!!
