If you've been searching for an absolutely awesome Classic Mustang Convertible and want one that truly stands out from the sea of red, white, blue and other colors then this glistening Sunlit Gold 1968 Pony Convertible may be the one you have been waiting for. As evidenced by the MARTI report this car wears its original, one year only color. Aside from the gorgeous color this amazing Stang also lived a great life. It was a San Jose, California production car that lived most of its life there before a gentleman from Canada purchased it about 3 years ago and treated it to its first repaint in the original color as well as an overall high quality restoration. He was a serious car guy and this Pony never saw any winter or inclement weather while in his care and the restoration truly looks like it was just competed recently. I actually purchased this car about a year ago and quickly sold it to a guy in Kansas who enjoyed the car and got the itch for a classic F1 Ford Pick up truck but he only had room for one toy so he called me to see if I would be interested in buying it back. The next day I wired him payment and had the car picked up by an enclosed transporter. For any true Mustang enthusiast this is a car that is hard not to love! It is very nicely equipped offering all the features that make it a true joy to drive including a completely rebuilt 289 V8, Automatic, Power Steering, Power front disc brakes, power top and more! This Pony sounds fantastic and runs and drives as good as it looks! If you have ever seen the undercarriage of a true California production Mustang that has never had rust issues then you will appreciate the underside of this '68! This Sunlit Gold beauty shouts quality everywhere you look and I am sure the next lucky owner is going to be extremely pleased when this car arrives. I will do my best to provide you with enough large images, a video so you can hear it running, and an honest description to help you decide if this Pony is the one you have been searching for. As with all of my classics I do have this car advertised on my website and several others. Therefore, if you want to scoop it up before the next car guy or gal does feel free to call me at 770-359-8400 to discuss how we can make that happen. Sit back and enjoy!
As mentioned this Mustang lived a rust free life in California for about 45 years. It is an original Sunlit Gold car and was treated to a very high level restoration about 3 years ago and repainted in the original color. Body panels are extremely straight and align great. Doors open and shut perfectly. It has the deluxe hood with turn signals built in that function correctly. The added decor package with chrome rocker panel trim and added chrome trim around the trunk. All of the chrome trim, bumpers look excellent although the front bumper shows minor signs of age. Awesome looking C-Stripe in black. The body is truly near flawless with only a few extremely tiny rock chips that most people would never notice. All of the weatherstripping was replaced at time of restoration and glass all looks greats. Windows roll up and down with ease. Added passenger side view mirror. One item added by the guy who bought it from me a year ago is front fog lights. They look great but if you are a perfectionist you may note they are '67 style not correct '68 style...easy to change if desired but not something most people would notice. You will see in the photo tour of the body below that the body on this Pony is truly in near flawless condition and you will certainly win trophies at the local shows if desired. Take a look:

I hope the next lucky owner enjoys this classic Mustang with the top down as much as possible but of course it is nice to know that this '68 has a power top that operates perfectly, latches down great, seals really well and looks close to new. It has the split glass back window. The black top is a great accent against the glistening Sunlit Gold metallic paint and this Mustang looks almost as good with the top up as it does with it down. When the top is down there is a factory boot cover for a nice finished look. Check it out:

Complimenting the eye-popping Sunlit Gold Metallic paint is an equally impressive deluxe black interior with woodgrain accents. The interior was also completely redone at the time of restoration and according to the MARTI report was upgraded from the original standard interior to the deluxe interior which is really classy. Woodgrain accents on the door panels and dash and the woodgrain deluxe steering wheel really set this interior apart. Carpeting looks close to new with a great set of Pony carpeted floor mats. Center console with working courtesy light looks great. Original style radio in the dash has actually been retrofitted and is an FM radio. There is also a jack in the sliding storage of the center console for an i-pod or mp3 player. According to the MARTI report this car originally had the tilt away steering column but it no longer does. All of the gauges and lights appear to be working properly. Original front and rear seat belts. Overall the interior looks close to band new and is definitely show ready. Take a look inside:

Okay so hopefully you will agree that this Mustang looks fantastic and now you are wondering if it runs as good as it looks.....the answer is ABSOLUTELY! The original C-Code 289 was pulled out at the time of restoration about 3 years ago and completely rebuilt and detailed. There is an estimated 2300 miles on the motor since it was rebuilt and it truly runs fantastic. The original C-4 automatic was also pulled and rebuilt at time of restoration and shifts beautifully. This Gold beauty hits the streets and handles the road with ease. Power steering makes maneuvering super easy at any speed and this car tracks straight and tight. Stopping is also a breeze with the power front disc brakes that do not pull. All of the front and rear suspension was gone through and updated at time of restoration also and this Mustang feels more like a 3 year old car on the road then a 48 year old car. Another upgrade the guy did who I sold it to was to add a fantastic sounding dual exhaust replacing the original style single exhaust. Great muscle car rumble under acceleration but not too loud at all when idling. Great stance with the Magnum 500 wheels and a close to new set of Michelin radials. Make sure you listen to the video that follows to hear this Pony running.
Another tell-tale sign of a truly awesome, high quality classic Mustang is how nice and original the floorpans and inside of the trunk are. Well, this one stands tall here as well. Floorpans appear to be all original and have been restored in their original red oxide primer with no undercoating hiding anything. You can see some of the factory original drip marks on the floor pans. Rock solid everywhere underneath. The inside of the trunk is also extremely original showing original paint on the inner trunk panels and inner rear quarter panels.New flu tank was added at time of restoration. Spare tire and correct trunk mat finish out the trunk. Original VIN plate on dash and drivers side door and MARTI report included to verify how it was originally ordered.
