Description

1966 Ford Galaxie 500 two door hardtop.

Up for sale today is my old Ford Galaxie. I had many dreams about restoring this car and making into a great cruiser one day but reality has finally set in that I don’t have the time to do what I want to this car.

I purchased the car off the original owner’s family, owner passed and left the car to her son who I purchased it from. The car came out of Mississippi and as you can see is very clean. The underside of the car is absolutely perfect and the body is laser straight making it a very easy car to make how you want. The car is registered and insured at this current time but I have not driven the carthat much over the past couple years(I also have a 66 500XL convertible).

This car is equipped with a 289 V8, Automatic transmission, Power Steering, Power Brakes and Factory Air Conditioning. I really hunted for some time to find a car with factory A/C in it because we all know that convertibles are nice but sometimes the nice cold air blowing at you is much better!

The body of the car, as mentioned, is laser straight, no signs of body work in the past and only one repaint that I can tell. All the moldings and emblems are on the car and nothing is missing from it. All the windows are is great shape with the exception of needing a windshield, I had some stones fall off a dump truck on the highwaythatcaused it to crack on the driver’s side.

The interior is in very good original condition with the exception of the dash pad cover on the driver’s side that the vinyl is rolling up at the end, needs to be glued back down. All the door panels, rear panels and the headliner are perfect. The carpet is new (was in the trunk when I purchased the car) and the seats, like previously stated, are in great shape for being 50 years old. The dash lights work on the car to include the good old cold light until the car warms up.

The 289 runs well but due to the carb needs to be rebuilt or replaced. When driving down the road the car will lag when you try to accelerate, maybe the accelerator pump is bad? The starter is new as is the fuel pump on the car. The transmission is an automatic and goes through the gears very well. Brakes on the car have all been gone through and the car stops great. The battery is not very old and turns the car over nice and quick.

The exhaust manifold gaskets have been replaced on the car and the exhaust system is quiet except of a small leak on the left side Y pipe right where it bolts to the manifold. When I removed the manifolds I noticed that that was where the noise is coming from but I planned on putting dual exhaust on the car so it did not matter much to me. The only other thing I noticed is that the right upper A arm bushings are deteriorated and need to be replaced, I have the parts but just like everything else don’t have the time to fix up like I intended to. The parts will be in the trunk for the new owner.

This car is super solid and you can take it in any direction that you want. I was going to bring it back to original, does not need much, paint it, go through the carb, tune itup and drive the car. I did not intend on doing a frame off restoration because in my opinion the car does not need one. You can do the small repairs and drive this car while you restore it or just drive it the way it is and not care about the paint. The only rust that I notice on the car is the very small amount shown in the photo of the right rear quarter panel, just a small amount of surface beginning.

The mileage on the car, according to the odometer is32,000 and the family told me that the mileage is correct. Based on looking at the condition of the car it could possibly be true but I have no way of verifying that it is correct so pleaseuse your own judgement.

If you are looking for an unrestored all original and unmolested Galaxie then this is the car for you. Fix or replace the carb and you can have this classic cruising down the highway nice and smooth again. Please look at all the photos of the car for its condition and I encourage anyone who wants to see the car to email me and we can set something up. Shipping is the responsibility of the high bidder and I will assist the transporter however I can for you. As to be expected with a vehicle that is 50 years old, this car is being offered for sale in as-is condition with no warranties either expressed or implied.

It is time to thin out my fleet, I have several classics that I am probably going to list on eBay to include a 1967 Fairlane, 1967 LTD, 1964 Thunderbird, 1983 F-150 with only 38K on it and a few more.

On Oct-02-16 at 16:25:32 PDT, seller added the following information:

I had two questions about the engine on the car. The car runs great, does not smoke etc. but as stated the carb needs to be rebuilt. The motor is quiet, no knocks or ticks and is smooth. I do not see any evidence of the motor being rebuilt and I will post of photo of the head when I pulled the valve cover off, it was nice and clean in the engine. Hopes this helps.
