You are bidding on a Rare, Very Solid, TRUE 1967 Ford Mustang GT fastback 390ci 4spd car. This ALL-ORIGINAL body is pretty much rust free from top to bottom with a very nice and shiny paint job. This was an old drag car from the 70’s thru the 80’s and then sat for many years. The body is super straight with no major dents or damage. She runs and drives with a high-performance-built 351 Cleveland engine, newer 5-spd TKO manual transmission, spool 9” ford with 3:73 gears, upgraded front disc brakes and all new suspension. Even has most of the original interior (bucket seats, floor console, overhead console and interior panels). This is a very nice, solid mostly-original car to enjoy as is or restore to its former glory. This is the iconic “Bullitt” model that everyone wants – a real head-turner!
The Body is ALL FORD Steel it was born with. Floors and exterior metal all look to be the originals it was born with except for the passenger rear quarter lower section which was replaced (maybe from a slick blow-out). It does NOT appear to be a rust repair. There are no major dents or damage. There is only one coat of paint on the car, it looks to have been stripped and resprayed years ago since the paint is older enamel not lacquer. Floors, trunk and trunk drop offs all look very nice and solid with no patch panels. Lower drivers side drop off does show some minor rust starting. Frame ties were installed early in its history and they were welded to the existing floor pans.
Most of the exterior weatherstrippings look to be original and in good shape with some new pieces installed. Windshield and glass are all in good condition.
Most of the chrome, stainless and brite work pieces are original pieces and in good condition with some flaws and very minor pitting. Some pieces have been replaced. Bumpers are original, shiny and straight but have flaws.
This was a drag car not a show car so it was USED and ENJOYED HARD! There are many flaws from dings, scratches, and chips in the paint.
The Interior is mostly original and in ok condition. A lot can be restored but some items will need to be replaced. Carpeting, seat covers, floor console, overhead console, door panels, package tray, weatherstripping all are in ok condition with no major damage. Directionals, lights, wipers, blower and tach work. Most of the dash gauges and idiot lights work. All the windows, doors, locks, hood and trunk operate as they should.
The Drivetrain originally was a 390ci with a 4-spd manual trans. That drivetrain is long gone. A high-performance-built 351ci Cleveland motor with a newer 5-spd TKO manual trans is now in its place. The motor runs beautifully with lots of horsepower! No smoke or noises or major leaks. The original radiator looks good and the owner did install an electric fan as a back up.
The TKO transmission works fine with no issues and the clutch does not slip or have any issues.
Rearend is a Ford 9” spool set up with 3:73 gears.
Most of all of the suspension and steering components have been replaced. New slotted and drilled rotors and 4-piston disc brake calipers installed up front. Scott Drake Big Block Springs up front and Leafs out back. She runs great, shifts fine, steers where you want her and has good brakes!
The Undercarriage. The floor pans and frame are original and in GREAT condition! Frame, floor pans, trunk drop offs and rockers are all original and super solid condition, no patches! Again, frame ties were installed long ago and welded to the factory floor pans. The 15” B.F. Goodrich tires are in good conditiongood with lots of tread and the Keystone Classics are old and aged. Tires are a too big for everyday driving but good for drag racing.
