32k Original Miles One Family Owned Since New Rust Free Patina Runs/Drives Great
Description
Wonderfully stock and original, nicely patina'd, one family owned, very low mileage (32k!), great running and driving, rust free (other than bed floor) 1979 Ford F-150 Ranger XLT 4 wheel drive pickup truck. It was built in San Jose, CA and bought new by one brother in Oregon. He sold it to another brother in Idaho in 1992 who owned it until earlier this year when my son traded another vehicle for it. Until then it was only used for camping and towing a boat to the lake (that was its sole purpose). The second brother was getting quite elderly and could no longer get in and out without difficulty. My son has no need for it so he has asked me to sell it for him.
The running gear is awesome and operates the way you would expect for a 32,000 original mile truck. The 351 starts right up and runs great; the C6 automatic transmission shifts smoothly; the NP205 transfer case operates properly: and the high-pinion Dana 44 front and Ford 9 inch rear axles represent the Holy Grail running gear combo in Ford trucks. Mods are confined to a dual Cherry Bomb style exhaust (sounds great!) and a 4 inch Rancho Suspension lift with air shocks in the rear. The power steering pump has a whine but does not leak. I would not hesitate to drive this truck cross-country tomorrow.
The exterior looks great other than some paint fading and chipping. It appears to have been resprayed once long ago in the original color. The body is excellent and rust free but patina'd. Personally, I think patina has value. Something can be restored over and over but is only original once. Unfortunately they kept a rubber mat on the bed floor for years which allowed moisture to build up; the rest of the bed is excellent. The only other flaws are a dent in the lower passenger door and long ago body work on the driver side cowling. The heavy duty front bumper and Warn winch were a dealer installed option when it was bought new.
The interior is in very good, original condition. The dash has no cutting or butchery of any kind but dash pad is cracked. Left arm rest has been replaced at some point. Seat upholstery looks near new other than three fabric panels worn badly where the second brother struggled to get in and out. My son was told he wore a bunch of Leathermans and a holstered hand gun on his belt which scraped the fabric. Floorboards, kick panels and cab corners are in great shape. All glass is good. Everything works but gas gauge is intermittent. Doors lock with key but inside locks have come unhooked. It feels very tight and solid when driving other than some rattling from the doors which is typical.
