1989 Mustang LX 5.0 Cobra Stored in a Barn for Last 15 Years! - Steeda Excellent
Description
This is a RARE find!
This Mustang 5.0 LX (Cobra Engine) has been stored in a barn for the last 15 years of it's life. It's in almost perfect original condition and the interior is almost flawless. It even has a rare electric sunroof!
The Back Story:
The Mustang has belonged to the original owner since new. It was driven as a weekend/second car for the early part of it's life, and was kept in perfect condition. When she was about 10 years old, a freeze plug blew out and the owner decided to just pull the engine and have some goodies added from Steeda and Ford SVT.
The engine, which was in great condition, was pulled and rebuilt from the inside out. New everything, including new aluminum SVT heads. The engine was built into a "stock" Cobra SVT supercharged motor by Bob's Speed - ALL Ford SVT parts were used.
Steeda added the Procharger Supercharger, intercooler and tuning.
After all this work was done, there has been only 2000 miles put on this car - then it was stored in a barn for the last decade and a half!!
Other parts that were added:
3.73 Posi Rear End
Supercharger
Intercooler
Larger fuel injectors
Hi pressure fule pump
Stainless Exhaust
Larger Throttle Body
SVT Intake
SVT Cam
SVT Aluminum Cobra Heads
SVT Pistons
Headers
Wider Stock Pony Rims
Nitto Drag Radials
Short Linkage Shifter
K&N Filter
This is an excellent Mustang that is the true "sleeper". It is clean on the inside and outside and there is very little to give it away except the whining of the supercharger. Back when the engine was built and it was put on the dyno, it measured over 600 hp. However, due to sitting in storage for so long, it needs refreshing and retuning.
What I think needs to be done since it has sat in storage for so long:
All rubber hoses and belts should be serviced or replaced
Fluids should be changed
Tires should be inspected for cracking or being out of round
Steeda (or any performance shop) needs to retune the MAS
AC needs to be recharged. After 15 years, the freon is gone but the AC works when charged
Air vent system switch does not activate different levels
Minor surface rust around the window on the hatch, which is normal for this model
The gas tank sensor seems to be off so it might need to be replaced
Engine should be cleaned - There is dust on everything
I will meet you for inspections and test drives. Do not expect to drive it at high speeds down the freeway or do donuts in the Publix parking lot. You can test that it is functional and everything is in good mechanical condition, but as I said before, there must be some practical servicing performed before this beauty's throttle is floored. You can test it to feel the power and torque and handling at normal speeds in the neighborhood where it is stored.
Serious buyers only - please don't come for a test drive if you know very little about muscle cars.
In 2 years, this will be considered classic car by the State of Florida, so get it now! You will have that lost muscle car that was truly "Found in a Barn"!
