Description
1965 mustang fastback C code (original 289 automatic car)
BODY.The car has been media blasted in the last 6 months as you can see in a couple of the pictures and it had very little rust. Both lower rear quarters have new patch panels already welded in. The trunk pan also has new partial pans welded in (where needed). In the back it has a brand new gas tank and a brand new rear valance installed. Both doors are OEM with very minor rust in the lower front corners. Both fenders are OEM and don't appear to have any rust or body work ever done on them. The hood is OEM and is nice. The front valance is less than a year old and is very nice. The cowl panel on the car has pits and needs replaced but I have a cowl panel section that was removed from another car that I will include. The roof has some damage on the drivers side from a tree limb that had fallen on it sometime through the years. The floors of the car were pretty nice, I did the drivers front floor pan and one very small patch on the passenger front as you can see in my pic. The frame rails of this car were as nice as I've seen, not even surface rust on them. Under the hood I replaced both the drivers and passengers front fender aprons and I added the later model front torque boxes to stiffen the car up some. After all of the parts were media blasted and welded up, I put a coat of POR15 topcoat over the freshly blasted metal to preserve it until it goes for body work/paint. I currently have the 1966 grille installed (out of personal preference, but I can install the original 1965 grille if you would prefer). I have the rear window trim brand new never installed, the tail light and front park light assemblies were brand new and I just installed them in the last 6 months. I upgraded to the halogen headlights in the last 6 months as well. The car has BRAND NEW American racing torque thrust D wheels, 15x6 and 15x8 and has brand new 215-60-15 tires all the way around. These have less than 100 miles!
DrivetrainFor the mechanical side of things, I reworked all of the brakes. 4 wheel drum brakes received new shoes, new wheel cylinders, new hoses, new brake lines front to rear, updated power brake booster, and new drums on the rear. I picked up a nice reman crate 302 from the parts store, and used a 1991 mustang gt for the wiring, fuel lines, EFI swap and accessories. The car has a new fox body radiator with a nice electric fan (the car runs around 170 degrees daily driving it). The engine is a new crate setup (5000 miles or less) with a GT40/explorer upper and lower intake, bbk cold air intake, silicone hoses, new long tube headers, offered H-pipe into flow master mufflers. I slid in a new clutch less than 1000 miles ago. I upgraded to a mini torque starter with the 5 speed swap. The T5 shifts as good as any that I have driven. I added in a nice aluminum driveshaft while I was at it. This car runs and drives as good as any old car that I've had, you can drive this old car everyday as i have, and enjoy it while you restore it. The drivetrain of this car doesn't have a single issue that I know of.
InteriorI have a set of newly recovered white vinyl standard front/rear seats that will be installed this week. I have new black kick panels that have not been installed. I have new white standard door panels and new complete armrest assemblies that have not been installed. I did a new 66 gauge cluster and added in all new Equus gauges in the factory location. Everything is hooked up minus the speedometer, I need to get a need speedo cable on it and hook it up. The entire inner structure of the car has been POR15 as well. The rear fastback panels are all there and are nice. They will need repainted. The fold down seat is nice and works really well, the chrome does have some pitting. I do have black carpet in the car but someone has cut it to short so it would need new carpet. While I was at the metal work I installed a brand new dynacorn complete dash shell into it and its still the factory gray so it will need painted. I did add a new headlight switch and a new ignition switch to it. The heater controls, radio and wiper switches aren't installed as I have plans on buying those new as well. The car does need a heater core as its started to leak into the pass floor mat as I was driving it this week. I have some brand new duct work and heater box parts that are not installed.
Pros...The car is tagged, insured and I'd drive it across the country today. It gets compliments everyday, and lots of thumbs ups on the interstate. Its honestly a good old car with VERY MINIMAL rust left to fix, and the rust is only on the corner of the doors and 1 place on the pass quarter vent other than that this car is 100% rust free. This car is tagged and insured in my name, and will transfer straight to you with zero issues.
Cons...Its an old car, it needs minor body work and paint. The panels will have to be lined up when it goes for paint. The fox body wiring that I installed seemed like a good idea at the time, but it kind of messy behind the dash and still needs the wipers, the signal lights, the dimmer switch and the heater controls wired in. It isn't that big of a deal to finish this, but I haven't made it around to it.
On Jan-23-17 at 04:59:34 PST, seller added the following information:To clear up some confusion, here is some info to straighten things up.
The car is pictured as it sits now in the picture in front of the painted graffiti wall. This photo was taken on 1-19-2017. (Currentpics are #1-#4) The pics of the car stripped to the bare metal and no glass was the next day after the car got blasted approximately 6 months, it has came a long way since then.
The very minor damage on the roof skin can be seen in the #10 photo, it is only light cosmetic damage that will straighten right out with any body man. No parts will need bought or replaced to fix this.
Photos #12-#18 were taken this morning, this shows exactly how the car sits in my shop today. The interior shots show how it is as well. I have the newly recovered front seats that will be installed before the car leaves me, I will have the brand new door panels, new arm rest assemblies and the new front kick panels laying inside of the car. The front seats in the car now are Pony seats from my other fastback, they are not included and will be replaced with the new covered standard seats as previously stated. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to see more pics/videos of the car, you can call or text me at 864-606-960zero.
