Description

Thank you for taking a look at my fast, fun, and amazing 1991 Ford Mustang. Since its total rebuild, the car has only been driven about 250 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to love this car!!!!
Here is the story...
I am the Automotive Technology Instructor at the largest High School in South Carolina as well as the local Technical College in Charleston, SC. As part of my teaching responsibilities, sometimes I select project cars that help provide opportunities for my students to learn. My intent with this car was to build a fun, fast, and reliable car that I would use as my daily driver and I would use to drive back and forth to work. I purchased this Mustang as a typical daily driver 4 cylinder, automatic, hatch back. After bringing it into the shop my students and I began dissasembling the car in order to build the fun, reliable vehicle I was looking for. Here is the list of work that was done...
EngineA 1985 351W out of a Crown Vic was located and completely disassembled. After throughly cleaning a complete inspection was done. This included Magnafluxing (checking for cracks) the block and cylinder heads, measuring the cylinders, pistons, crankshaft journals, and connecting rods, as well as inspecting the cylinder heads, including valves, seats, guides, and springs. I rebuilt the block by machining the cylinders .040" oversized, surfacing both decks .015", and installed new cam bearings and freezeplugs. I rebuilt the heads by machining the valve seats to accept larger stainless steel valves (in=1.940" ex=1.060"), lightly ported the heads to accept the aditional airflow that the larger valves supply, and surfaced the head gasket surfaces .010". The students and I cleaned all of the components and assembled the engine with all new Speed Pro pistons, rings, rod bearings, main bearings, timing chain, camshaft(CS1231R), lifters, Melling oil pump, Fel-Pro gaskets, Manley valves, and Comp valve springs. The engine was also fitted with a Edelbrock performer intake manifold, Holley Street Adveniger Carb, Ford Racing polished valve covers, MSD 6A Ignition, and a set of short stainless headers. As you can see, this engine was built right!
TransmissionA 1993 mustang V8 foxbody T-5 Transmission was rebuilt using new Timken bearings and new syncronizers. A Late Model Restorations short throw shifter was added as well as a LMR adjustable clutch cable and quadrent. A steel 28oz Ford Racing flywheel was used with a Ford Racing clutch.
Suspension and BrakesThe original rear axle was removed and a 1995 Mustang 8.8 was installed (5 lug, rear disc, limited slip) with Summit racing tubular control arms, and 1.5" lowering springs. The front struts were replaced with 91 Mustang V8 struts from Autozone. The front spindles were replaced with 95 mustang spindles and 5 lug rotors (drilled). The front calipers were replaced with 2001 Mustang PBR (2 piston) calipers. 1.5" lowering springs were also used up front. The master cylinder was replaced with one from a 2001 Mustang GT and the brake booster was replaced with a new one designed for a 1993 Mustang Cobra. Lastly, all new Duralast brake pads were installed and rotors were machined.
Wheels and TiresAn original set of 17" 1995 Cobra R wheels were sandblasted and re-power coated in a silver metallic. They look amazing! The tires are nearly new BFG Gforce (245/45zr17) up front and Nexen (275/45zr17) out back.
PaintFirst a Cervinis Stalker front bumper and hood were installed and any necessary bodywork was done. Then the original white paint was sanded and prepped for two part primer. Finally three coats of single stage silver metallic paint was sprayed. The color looks great and has a lot of metallic sparkle out in the sun. I get compliments everywhere I take the car. I would like to add this though (to give full discloser), the body work and paint job were preformed by high school students. It is not a show car quality paint job but for a street car it looks amazing. With that said, every time I drive this Mustang people flock to it. It is one of the best looking foxbody I have ever seen. After the paint work was completed, new 6 peice clear headlights were installed and new rear tail light lenses were installed.
InteriorThe interior was cleaned and a nice (not brand new but very clean) black carpet was installed and a set of black leather 2000 Mustang GT power bucket seats were installed. The headliner was recovered with new black headliner material. A Sony CD player was installed as well as Kenwood speakers in the doors and back seat plates. Also a 12" Kennwood subwoofer and Kenwood amplifer were installed. Finally a full set of Equus gauge were added to a custom dash gauge plate. Overall the interior is super clean for a 1991 Mustang and super comfortable. It is a great car to drive and very fun to be in the driver seat.
Other ModificationsOther modifications include weld in subframe connectors, dual Flowmaster 2 chamber exhaust, new windsheild, new alumimum radiator, and probably even more things that I am sure I am leaving out.
As you can see this car was a labor of love! As I mentioned before, when my students and I were building this car I fully intended on it being my daily driver so with that in mind I did not cut any corners. I wanted to build a reliable and exciting Mustang and that is what we did. Unfortunately for me my priorities have changed and I need to sell my Mustang. Since the rebuild listed above, the car has only been driven about 250 miles. What you a buying is a car that I have invested over $10,000 into. I only wish that it will go to someone that will apreicate it as much as I do.
Please feel free to ask me any questions that you have I am happy to help. I also have a couple of videos that I would be happy to send if you would like.
Thank you,
