Description

Thank you for looking at my ad. I am selling my original 1989 Saleen Ford Mustang #89-044. This is an original, unmolested or modified saleen that has been sitting since 2003. The title is clean, passes CA smog, and the car is registered until Nov. 2017. The options on this saleen are that it is a LX hatchback with white exterior, gray interior, 5 speed, and 3.55rear endgears. I believe those are the variables between the saleens produced in 1989. It did sit outside neglected for many years so I will say it definitely will need a paint job. The 1980's paint has been chipping off and there are small rust spots on the exterior body. I kept the rust in its place because I did not want to rattle can and spot paint the car. There is nothing on the paint that is hiding trouble areas. The pictures show the surface rust areas that need repair. The front seats also show wear and at some point will need to be upholstered. This mustang is in really good condition for being a 28 year old car. Its been in CA its whole life and it shows. There is no rotting rust or problem areas with the undercarriage, door bottoms or hatch. The motor and transmission function as they should and they do not have any mechanical issues. The best part of this saleen is that it still has all its original body panels and that it has never been resprayed. That suggests that it has never been in an accident that required body repair or paint. There is no body fill or bondo on the car. Each body panel still has the factory VIN sticker that matches the car VIN. In the pictures I included a clean Carfax report. I did contact Saleen for authenticity and they came back with a positive email listing the car and options. A copy ofthat email is in the pictures as well. The motor has not been upgraded for modified. It still has its original airbox and no modifications have been made. The car has had the rear tinted for a long time but I recently had it removed. So the rear and rear seats show really well.

I uploaded video on youtube showing the car drive. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/SXuLPUdIaR0

Saleen items removed from this car:

  • The original stereo with equalizer is no longer in the car. The original mounting plate exists, but a late 1990's deck is in its place
  • The saleen plate by the shifter is no longer in the car. Someone beforeme did put in its place another plate, number is 88-465. Why this was done, I have no idea.

Items that should be done for daily driver:

  • Fuel tank gasket needs repaired. When the fuel tank is filled to capacity, it will leak gas. The tank is new and the sending unit with new gasket was replaced as well. The gasket did not seat right during install. So the tank does need to be lowered and the gasket reset or replaced.
  • Windshield does have a crack in it. Although it doesn't effect driving, its technically not legal and I want to make that clear.
  • Driver door lock will need replaced. It is broken so you have to unlock the passenger side and click the door lock button to enter the drivers side.
  • AC blows a little cold, but needs recharged.

I updated the headlights with Late Model Restoration one piece clear headlights. I did not finish wiring the parking lights because I was thinking of going back to the new original lights. All front lights work, but the parking lights are currently not wired. I do have the original front headlight set and they will go with the car. They are yellowed, one has a crack lense, and one has broken mounts. Honestly there will be no real surprises on this car. The gauges work, heat and cooling controls work, vents move and function, rear defrost work, wipers work, cruise control works, power windows/lock/mirrors work, fuel door button works, armrest pocket door works. Running temperature, oil pressure, and charging are all fine. Still has a functioning rear hatch cover that pulls out and hides belongings in the back. Still has spare tire and lug wrench. Since it is a 28 year old car little "normal" things need fixed. The ashtray door stays open but I did buy the kit to repair it. Repair kit will come with the car if I do not put it on myself before it sells. Pretty common issue when you read forums. Map light doesn't turn on, rear hatch button does not pop the hatch, needs fan shroud, passenger vanity mirror light bulbs were removed. It has a very sensitive switch that remains on even though you close vanity door and fold the visorin the up position. I took the bulbs out because they were staying on and causing a draw on the battery. Wheels are good condition but they show as used.A little curb rash and expected for a 127K mile car.
